Happy New Year! To kick off 2025, I thought a repeat of last year would be nice. So, I’ll share any updated thoughts on the products from my top 10 most-viewed blog posts of 2024. If you want to see the original post I am referencing, click on the numbered title.
But first, an update. 2025 is going to look different around here. If you are signed up for e-mails, you won’t get as many because I won’t be posting as much this year. I will be updating the website with more guides like the Concealer Ranking and Foundation Round-up so visitors to my website can easily find products by category. Currently, the Brands A-Z page is the best way to find everything I’ve posted, but for those looking for a certain product rather than a brand, this should help. If you visit those pages (concealer ranking, foundation round-up, etc.) or my Makeup Swatches page, you will see a notation of the last day it was updated. I will be available by e-mail (editor.nikkifromhr@gmail.com) and will continue to respond to comments. So, you can always reach out to me in those ways with specific questions. Thank you for your time and support. I hope my website has been helpful, and I hope any future posts, however few, will continue to help you spend your beauty budget wisely. 🙂
OK, let’s get into the top 10 most-viewed blog posts of 2024!
1.Revlon Super Lustrous Lipsticks (rum raisin, raisin rage, desert escape) – Posted on April 28, 2021

Once again, this post is my number 1 most viewed for 2024 and remains my most popular post of all time. The Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick line comes in several different finishes (cream, pearl, and a separate matte line) and in many colors. I also have swatches of Make Me Blush and Extra Spicy if you want to check out those linked posts. This formula does have a lanolin ingredient (C10-30 Cholesterol/Lanosterol Esters), so keep that in mind if you are allergic to lanolin. This classic, medium pigment, fragrance-free bullet lipstick feels comfortable and moisturizing. I do still think this is a good formula, but it isn’t at the top of my list of favorites. I do appreciate the shade range, but at the drugstore, I still prefer the Maybelline Color Sensational formula more. It is scented, but for whatever reason, I am not bothered by it. I also think that L’oreal Colour Riche Lipsticks have a better formula than Revlon Super Lustrous, but I can not tolerate the fragrance of those. The Maybelline and L’oreal lipsticks also contain lanolin. The Revlon formula is thinner in texture and fragrance-free, so those points may be preferable to some.
2. So, Dior Reformulated My Go-To Concealer (Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer 4WO New Formula Review and Swatch) – Posted on March 4, 2023

As the title says, I reviewed Dior’s 2023 reformulation of their popular Skin Correct Concealer in this post. I mentioned in my Favorite Makeup of 2024 Post that this is no longer my go to concealer, so you may already know my updated thoughts. I still think the Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer is good and performs well for me. I just don’t like how much fragrance it has in it. I’m either nervous about it irritating my skin, so I don’t wear it, or I wear it, and I notice the smell off and on all day. While I haven’t had any adverse reaction, I’m just tired of being concerned about it. The Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer is now my most used concealer.
3. L’oreal True Match Super Blendable Foundation Review (W7, Reformulated 2023 Version) – Posted on March 25, 2023

I decided to dust off the L’oreal True Match Foundation this year, and I’m glad I did. I do still think that other foundations are more forgiving to my smile lines and pores, but it just isn’t a big deal unless I’m up close in the mirror being nitpicky. I do think that pairing this with setting powder prevents it from sinking into my pores for longer, but especially when I’m at my driest, I don’t like to use powder with this. Overall, this is a beautiful, satin/natural finish foundation with a medium coverage. So far, this pairs best for me with the bareMinerals Pressed Mineral Veil Powder, but I also want to try it with my NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder to see if it can wear even better with that. You can see me wearing the L’oreal True Match paired with the Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Pressed Powder in Translucent Tan by clicking here.
4. Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Dreams Luxury Eyeshadow Palette – Posted on June 29, 2022

I shared last year that I liked this formula so much that I purchased another quad called Queen of Glow. Unfortunately, I also discovered since then that something in the Charlotte Tilbury Eyeshadow formula irritates my eyelids. I experience itchiness, and sometimes it even causes an eczema patch. That aside, the formula is easy to use and pigmented, and the metallics have a beautiful shine without accentuating eyelid texture. It just so happens in my case that it ends up causing eyelid texture. Unfortunate for me, but still a good buy, in my opinion. This is also nice for someone who prefers smaller palettes and may get overwhelmed by the larger palettes.
5. Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick – 440 Irresistible – Posted on February 16, 2022

This formula from Estee Lauder was discontinued and replaced in Spring 2023 with the Pure Color Creme Lipstick. I have a full review of the new formula in the shade 818 Covetable that you can read by clicking here. I do not like the reformulation as much as the old formula, but I still use it. I like how it leaves my lips in good condition after using it, but I wish it had a little more shine.
6. Concealer Round-Up (Pat McGrath, Armani, Dior, Too Faced) – Posted on April 19, 2022

Since I already mentioned the Dior Concealer for number 2, I’ll just talk about the other 3 concealers from this post.
Pat McGrath Sublime Perfection Concealer: I love the high coverage of this formula, but I mostly use concealer under my eyes and can’t get this to stop creasing on me. As a spot concealer on the face, I have no issues with it; it performs well without powder and doesn’t look too dry. I prefer how this looks on me in the warmer months, but that is normal for my dry skin type and a matte concealer.
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Concealer: This light to medium coverage, glowy concealer wears very well with minimal creasing. I wish it had more coverage, so I wear it with a color corrector more often than not. I notice that it can look dry at the end of the day if I’m not using either the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Powder or the NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Powder. There is mica running through this formula to give it that luminous glow, and you can see it depending on the lighting situation. The times I have gone without setting this concealer with powder, I have noticed the mica particles more at the end of the day. Despite having less coverage than I usually like, I used this concealer more than I expected and have repurchased it a few times.
Too Faced Born This Way Concealer: I still can not get this to wear without creasing. It sinks into lines whether I use it under my eyes or on my face. I’ve tried different application methods and different powders, but the result is always the same. Under my eyes, it starts creasing before I even get a chance to pick up a powder to set it. This is one of the fullest coverage concealers I’ve experienced, so I kept trying to make it work because I wanted the coverage for darkness under my eyes. So, I’m finally throwing in the towel and accepting that this formula just doesn’t agree with me.
7. MAC Lip Pencil Swatches – Posted on February 1, 2020

MAC has recently reformulated the lip liners. I have not tried the new formula, so I can’t tell you anything about it. I’m sure the shades are at least a little different now. It is rare for a reformulation not to change the shade at least a little.
8. Sleeper Hits, Vol 3: NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder Pressed (Crystal Translucent) – Posted on January 16, 2022

It looks like it will make you shiny or too luminous, but I never have that problem. I switched to using the shade Shore more last year, but I am back to mostly using the Crystal shade again. I have to be careful with the Crystal Translucent shade because it can accentuate dryness if the foundation or concealer under it is too light. So I just keep that in mind. The reason I prefer the Crystal Translucent shade is because I’ve discovered that it has more of a blurring effect than Shore. I think that Shore has more coverage than Crystal Translucent, and somehow, that makes it less blurring. At least, that was my best guess when I was trying to figure this out lol. Shore also doesn’t seem to keep my concealers from creasing like the Crystal Translucent. Anyway, I still use this powder regularly and will continue purchasing it.
9. Does matchmymakeup.com Really Work? (Foundation Shade Matching Website) – Posted on September 1, 2021

Matchmymakeup.com is a shade matching website rooted in science. They claim to analyze the colors scientifically to find matches, and then a makeup artist reviews them for accuracy. I’d say 75% of the time, the website helped me get into the right ballpark for finding foundation matches. However, the other 25% of the time, when I saw the shade recommendation in store, there was no way it would work. I think the biggest issue with this concept is that the pigment ratio that makes two colors look similar isn’t the only consideration for finding a match. The finish of a foundation changes how the color dries down. Also, if the formula is sheer, each individual’s skin tone will alter the shade more than fuller coverage. The fuller the coverage, the more accurate the shade match has to be. It is a fun website to play around on and get an idea of shades in other brands if you already have a current shade close to your skin tone. I would just suggest cross-referencing the match from another source (E.g., YouTube, Blogs, Google Image Search, etc.) or going into a store to see it before spending any money.
10. Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Beauty Icon K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick and Lip Cheat 90s Pink (Swatches) – Posted on January 31, 2024

The Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G formula has become one of my favorites. It is a satin finish with a lot of pigment and is comfortable to wear. I have to be careful not to have too slippery of a lip balm on when I wear this formula. If I have lip balm on, I blot off the excess before applying. When I don’t take that step, this formula doesn’t stay in place and ends up on my teeth. Some waxier lip balms or the MAC Prep and Prime Lip are ok under it, but I typically just remember to blot. 90s Pink turned out to be more purple than I’d prefer, so Nude Romance is still my most used shade from the line. I think Nude Romance is a limited edition shade, but it is still available for sale at Nordstrom and Charlotte Tilbury’s website.

Ah, that’s such a shame about the CT quads! I only have one, (sold all other CT palettes I got from Lucky Bags) but I like it enough that I’d consider buying more if anything else ever caught my eye. I guess it’s at least a good thing that your eye irritation comes from shadows from this brand rather than some of the others you love like ND or PML! If that happened to me I’d be so sad!

It’s funny you say that about PML because at first I was scared it was her shadows. I stopped wearing them for a couple months before realizing it was actually the CT formula. I’m glad I took my time figuring it out 😅.

That’s a relief at least that it wasn’t PML haha.
