Pat McGrath SatinAllure Lipstick (Negligee)

The Pat McGrath SatinAllure Lipsticks made their first appearance as part of the Bridgerton 2 collection in March 2022. When the collection was released, I ordered Negligee and Veiled Rose but unfortunately, Veiled Rose was too cool-toned for my preferences so I returned that one. Today I’ll show you Negligee and give you the rundown on the formula in case you are interested in this line of lipsticks.

If you have been following me for long enough you may have seen me mention this formula in my swatch post for the Pat McGrath Blushing Delights Palette. My initial thought on this formula was that I wasn’t impressed and that there are better lipsticks on the market. That is still kind of true, but the shade of Negligee does make me like this lipstick a little more. The SatinAllure formula is light to medium coverage and has a nice luminous shine to it. It’s smoothing on the lips and I don’t experience any feathering. It’s comfortable to wear, and fairly thin without being slippery in texture. It’s supposed to be hydrating but I don’t find that to be true for me but it isn’t drying.

It does look nice and for a cream lipstick, it lasts for about 3 hours before needing a touchup. I drink water and tea all day so for me that’s decent. So where does the kind of true part come in? I can’t help but feel like this formula looks nicer on my lips than it feels on my lips for my personal preferences. I like a thicker feel to my lipsticks and just a little more coverage. Lipsticks that feel thicker are becoming less common as newer lipstick formulas are being released. So that leads me to believe that the masses prefer thinner textures and this one fits that bill.

Update July 5, 2025: It took a little patience and some additional trips to Sephora, but I was able to find a couple more shades that I love in the SatinAllure formula (swatches below). I started with Negligee, and while I enjoy it, I do prefer to wear it with a lip liner. I’m adding a picture below where I am wearing Negligee without lip liner so you can see how the shade looks on its own. I’m also adding photos of the shades In the Flesh and Entranced.

I think that as long as you like the packaging, this is good lipstick for $30. I also think that this new shade expansion provides some beautiful colors to choose from. If you are used to the hefty Pat McGrath Lipstick packaging though, this will be a letdown. The overall weight of this packaging is lightweight and that is disappointing. I do still like the packaging, however, because I personally like the bow detail better than the lips on the classic line. I do also want to point out that although the SatinAllure Lipstick formula is only 3.7g compared to the 4g of the MatteTrance Lipstick formula, it is also $9 cheaper.

Comparison Swatches for Shade Reference

I’ve compared Pat McGrath Negligee ($30) to Laura Mercier Beige Intime ($38), Estee Lauder Intense Nude (this is the discontinued formula), and Charlotte Tilbury Glowing Jen ($38, reviewed here). All three of the comparison lipsticks have more coverage than the Pat McGrath formula and wear longer. This comparison is to hopefully put the color into context for you. If you are curious about the Charlotte Tilbury formula, I’ve done a review that you can check out by clicking here.

Final Thoughts

If you are someone who enjoys lighter coverage lipsticks with some shine, I think you’ll like this. Also, if you don’t have very pigmented lips, you’ll obviously get more coverage out of it. I do think that from a distance it looks like more coverage than it’s actually providing, so that’s a plus. Are there other lipsticks both at this price and cheaper that are just as good? Of course, that will always be true. At a similar price, I like the Huda Beauty Luminous lipsticks ($27) better, and for cheaper, I like the Propa Beauty lipsticks ($12). Those two formulas have the shine that I get from the Pat McGrath with higher coverage. However, I like Pat McGrath’s color range better than both of those brands. So as with all things, there is some give and take.

  1. I looked at this shade in store, looking for a dupe for the now discontinued Bobbi Brown Tulle. I didn’t notice the texture difference but thank you for bringing it to my attention! One of the things I loved about the old BB lip formulas was how thick they were! This shade is so pretty on you!! But considering the formula of this PG, I know it’ll just sit there.

    1. Thank you, I’m glad this was helpful! I could never stand the fragrance of the Bobbi Brown lip color, but I did always like the formula. I can’t think of another lipstick that I would say really compares to those. Even some of the thicker lipsticks I can think of have more shine and don’t last as well 🤔. Maybe depending on how you feel about the brand you could look into the Charlotte Tilbury Kissing Lisptick formula. I haven’t had a Bobbi Brown in a long time though, so I could be a little off in how they compare. Bobbi Brown does still sell a few shades in that formula but it sounds like the color of Tulle is what you are really after.

      1. Thanks!! I will check out the Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks, I hadn’t thought of those!! Appreciate your take on the BB formula, I’ve really struggle to find other lipsticks that are as rich as those!! I thought it was only me being picky!!
