Propa Beauty Luminous Satin Lipstick Swatches

Propa Beauty Luminous Satin Lipstick in Prime Time Swatch Medium Dark Skin
Propa Beauty Luminous Satin Lipstick in Prime Time, $12.00

After hearing great things about this lipstick line for so long I decided to give it a try for myself. This is a softer lipstick formula so I took some advice that I read in Lili’s review post and didn’t try these until they had some time to sit at room temperature. I was glad I took her advice because these are, in fact, very soft.

In my opinion, the brand has priced this lipstick well at $12.00. While it is more expensive than a mass-market/drugstore lipstick, the Propa Beauty Lipstick is priced from $2.00 to $3.00 below other Indie brands (independently owned, no parent company).

  • Juvia’s Place, $14
  • Mented, $14.99
  • Hue Noir, $15
  • Winky Lux, $15

The Packaging

In my opinion, the packaging feels a little cheap because it is so lightweight. It is definitely sturdy and I don’t see it breaking or cracking easily, it just isn’t very weighted. The turning mechanism works just fine and I’ve had no issues, it is just something I personally noticed. They have used a uniquely shaped component (octagon) which from a production standpoint is likely not cheap. I understand that every brand needs to find a way to stand out, so I think they probably made the right call going for a unique component over a heavy one.

The Propa Beauty Lipsticks are also slightly larger than some others on the market. I have compared one to a MAC lipstick and a Maybelline lipstick for size reference below. In terms of actual product MAC has 3 grams, Propa Beauty as 3.5 grams, and Maybelline has 4.2 grams.

The Formula

The money saved on the weight of the packaging was definitely wisely invested in the formula itself. The formula is incredibly buildable without it looking heavy at full opacity. They do not accentuate lip lines and I don’t get any feathering into the fine lines at the edge of my lips. They stay in place the way a satin finish would, but they keep a slight sheen to them throughout wear. So I think the luminous satin name is perfect. They do have a soft vanilla fragrance, so if you do not like fragrance in your lip product, these will be a pass.

This is one of the few lipsticks that I have tried that leave my lips in better condition than they were before I put them on.  The other formulas I’ve had this experience with are the Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick and the Bobbi Brown Nourishing Lip Color. The Estee Lauder formula is not similar at all, it is just a nourishing formula. The Bobbi Brown Nourishing Lip color formula is more similar to the Propa Beauty formula but the color range isn’t as good (especially if you have a dark skin tone). The Bobbi Brown also has less pigment and opacity in comparison. The Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick formula comes close to the Propa Beauty for its moisturizing feel. However, Maybelline doesn’t quite go as far as the Propa Beauty Luminous Satin Lipstick when it comes to feeling like it actually conditioned my lips as if I wore a lip balm.

Propa Beauty Lipsticks are also vegan and cruelty-free. So considering the color range and the formula, I think this is an excellent lipstick. I feel like it offers something different to the market, considering that the only similar experiences I’ve had are with non-cruelty free brands. Going even further and seeing how unique the shade range offering is and how well it suits deeper skin tones, I can highly recommend the formula.

One big downside is that you can only order these direct from the Propa Beauty website and shipping is $5.95. So if you just want one shade that makes this lipstick $17.95. There is free shipping over $25, but that means you have to order 3 shades to save $5.95 and you’re still spending $36.00. Just something to consider.

You can also save 15% off by using an available influencer discount code. My go to YouTuber to shop through is Tina of the Fancy Face, so I used her code which is FANCYFACE.

  1. I was so excited to see the notification that you tried these out and I’m even more happy to know you like them! Your review is very thorough and you mentioned aspects of the lipsticks I hadn’t considered, such as the functionality of the component. That’s why I’ve been super curious to know your opinion of this formula as I consider you to be more knowledgeable about lipsticks than I am (which also thank you for linking my blog)! Do you have a favorite shade out of the ones you picked?

    1. That is incredibly nice of you, thank you. No problem, I like to give credit where credit is due. Prime time is my favorite, but profits is a close second. There is something so unique about these shades, I feel like I’ve tried these tones in other brands and couldn’t pull them off.

      1. I’m not sure if I mentioned I made another Propa purchase during a big sale (and ordered some for my sister and friend) but I also bought Profits in that order and I think it’s my new favorite!

        1. Awesome! We seem to go for similar colors. Well maybe not eyeshadow, you are much more daring than I am lol. Are your sister and friend enjoying the lipsticks? It’s always interesting to hear what more “average” makeup users think about products.

          1. Hahaha :D. You know, I’m actually not sure. The first one I bought for my sis, she said she liked but I don’t know how she feels about the new ones. I know she’s not wearing lipstick as much nowadays because of the mask situation. As for my friend, I was saving it for her birthday so I just gave it to her recently. I’ll have to find out!
