So, Dior Reformulated My Go-To Concealer (Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer 4WO New Formula Review and Swatch)

I was shocked to find out Dior reformulated the Forever Skin Correct Concealer. With all the love this concealer gets, I wonder if they started the reformulation before it gained traction. Regardless of the reason the update is now on the market with a formula made up of 96% natural-origin ingredients. Now that claim doesn’t mean a whole lot to me, but for those of us with sensitive skin, the downside to this new formula is that it does have added fragrance. I avoid products with added fragrance as a rule, but my curiosity won out and I decided to check out the new formula in store. The fragrance seemed subtle enough for me to tolerate, so I decided to buy it and test it out.

If you’ve seen my review of the original formula, as long as you keep the added fragrance in mind, then you pretty much know all you need to know about the new formula. Honestly, you guys, I don’t know how they managed it, but this formula is nearly identical to the original. For a point of reference, I have dry, sensitive, eczema-prone skin. Now let’s get into some detail on what I feel is better about the new Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer.

The short and sweet review is that the new **Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer ($40) formula performs even better for me than the original. It is easier to blend, creases less, and transfers minimally. The original formula of this concealer takes longer to blend than any other concealer I’ve used. While the new formula takes longer to blend than my other concealers, it blends faster and more easily than the old formula. For reference, some somewhat similar consistencies (not dupes) that blend faster and easier are the Too Faced Born This Way Concealer and the Ami Cole Skin Enhancing Concealer (going out of business in September 2025).

For me, I still need to set this concealer with powder to keep it from creasing badly, and the only powder that I’ve used with it that works well is the NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder. I’ve also tested this formula with the Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder and the NARS Soft Matte Advanced Perfecting Powder. When set with powder, the creasing is minimal, and it can only be seen from up close in the mirror. Creasing is more minimal for me when I apply this with a brush over my fingers. This new formula claims there is no transfer, which I wasn’t expecting, and I’m not sure if it’s true, but I would call it transfer-resistant. I would just keep in mind that I mostly use this under the eyes and toward the center of my face, where there would be less transfer anyway. But when blotted with a tissue, there is not much transfer.

As promised in the brand claims, this concealer has a natural finish. Of course, once I set it with powder, it is no longer quite as natural. When I use this with the NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Powder it does mattify the concealer a little but it doesn’t suck the life out of my already dry skin.

Oh, and for those interested in packaging details, the Dior concealer now comes in a glass bottle instead of plastic. It also has a better stopper mechanism, so those who had issues keeping the concealer clean near the cap shouldn’t have that issue anymore (see the May 17th update below). The amount you get for the price ($40) is 11 mL, which is large for a concealer.

Update May 17, 2023: I mentioned the stopper being better with the new packaging, but unfortunately, that is not the case, and it does still get pretty messy. I haven’t had any issue with it making a mess in my makeup bag thus far, and I haven’t cleaned it off since I purchased it in February. Since this was a big complaint with the old formula, I just wanted to point it out.

4WO is for medium skin with warm olive undertones

For shade reference, some of my best foundation matches are Estee Lauder Double Wear in 4W4, MAC Studio Fix Fluid in C8 (this is darker than my natural skin tone), and NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundations in Tahoe (a little dark). I can use shade 4WO as an undereye concealer, but it doesn’t work for spot concealing on my face. I’ve heard in other reviews that the new shades run lighter, but my shade is actually darker than the original. It is, however, less olive than it used to be, which coincides with other reviews claiming their new shade has more peach to it. On the face, the shade change doesn’t make a difference to me. I wore the old versus the new in some of my wear tests, and when I questioned my husband, he could not tell that I had two different concealers on.

Now for some drawbacks. First, the brand claims full coverage concealer but people who struggle with dark under eyes or acne scars, like myself, will only experience medium coverage. The Dior website states that “Dior Forever Skin Correct offers buildable coverage, from light coverage for targeted application to full coverage for application on the entire face.” So maybe the problem is that their claim of full coverage is about how you apply it versus what it covers.

Second, the shade range is still the same 30 shades and the range still needs work. If you have a medium-deep to deep-dark skin tone and need a warm or cool undertone, they still don’t have it. 4W is the last warm undertone shade in this lineup. Depths 5-9 are only offered in neutral undertones. Conversely, if you are on the lightest end of the spectrum, there is only one warm shade available. Both of these drawbacks were also the case in the original formula.

The added fragrance is the third and biggest drawback of the new Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer formula. I do think this is an odd addition since the last version worked just fine without it. Also, some people are sensitive to fragrance, which isn’t a necessary ingredient, so why add it? I do notice the fragrance, especially on the initial application and for about 30 minutes or so after. If you enjoy the experience of fragrance in your makeup, then obviously this wouldn’t be a drawback for you, but for me, it certainly is.

I’m glad I gave the new formula a try and satisfied my curiosity. I have enjoyed the easier blend and less creasing that this new formulation offers; however, I am still nervous about what the added fragrance might do to my skin. So far, I’m not noticing any rash or increased sensitivity, which is good. If that changes, I’ll be sure to post an update.

  1. Hi Nikki. I stumbled across your blog today and I’ve gone down the happiest of rabbit holes combing through your content. Do you post beauty stuff on IG?

I’m curious to know how long you keep your concealers. I have a stash with the oldest being at least 2 years old 👀. I’m bad with purging because I feel guilty not fully using things and dumping them out.

    1. Hi Ayana! Thanks for checking out my site 🙂. I’m not on Instagram, I just post here.

I understand the guilty feeling as I struggle with that as well when it’s time to throw something away. I do tend to stick pretty close to period after opening listed on the packaging for concealer because I don’t like to gamble with things around my eye area especially. 6 months after the recommendation is as far as I personally feel comfortable using something, but I do have sensitive skin. If you aren’t sensitive, you may not need to worry as much. The recommendation from the brand is just that, a recommendation based on their testing. They can’t account for individual climates and usage variations. So some products could last longer than their recommendation and some could expire faster. I’d say just pay attention to any changes in smell, texture, or performance, and if you’re experiencing any irritation then I would stop using it at that point.

Also, if you have a Nordstrom near you, you can take certain containers there to be recycled but they do have to be empty. Here is the website for more information on what things they will and won’t accept. https://www.nordstrom.com/browse/nordstrom-cares/get-involved/nordstrom-beauty-cycle.

      1. Thanks for sharing these considerations. I know I’m definitely at the “stinging” mark with my Giorgio concealers 🫣. My skin isn’t too sensitive but I am acne prone and bacteria is the enemy for my skin type. It’s settled – it’s time to let half of my stash go 😩.

I never knew about Nordstrom’s recycle program. I’m going to look into it, thanks…I’m so glad to have tapped into another resource for makeup reviews/news…and you being a fellow hr pro is the cherry on top!

        1. You’re welcome.

I hate to disappoint, but I don’t work in hr. The hr is a nod to my old web address (happily redundant) that I had to change because as it turns out it is a little demoralizing to call yourself redundant 🤦🏽‍♀️.

          1. Plot twist 😂. Thanks for the context. Redundant is definitely a triggering word in these times… Until I stop by again, have a good rest of your weekend.

  2. hi Nikki! Thank you for the very thorough concealer comparison post (which led me here to the Dior update). Just checking to see if this is still your top concealer choice & if it has caused any issues due to the fragrance?
Sincerely, a fellow sensitive comrade 😉

    1. Hi Stefanie! Thanks for taking the time to read and leave a comment. The fragrance has not seemed to cause me any skin irritation but I admit it does still make me nervous because I can definitely smell it for a while after application. I did enjoy using the old formula as a foundation sometimes but with the new formula applied all over the face, the fragrance is stronger than when I just use it under my eyes. So unfortunately this isn’t my top concealer anymore because of the fragrance but I would still recommend it for those that don’t have issues with fragrance.

If I wanted to replace it (rather than using some of the concealers I already have right now) I would likely repurchase the Too Faced Born This Way concealer. Too Faced has more coverage and I have to be more careful about creasing but there aren’t a lot of high coverage concealers without a matte finish that I’ve been able to use. If you don’t mind a matte finish, I’ve been liking the Huda Beauty Luminous Matte concealer. It is full coverage and I don’t set it with powder since I have dry skin, but I’ve only used it 3 times so I’d still consider that a first impression. Hope that helps. 🙂

      1. Your comments are so helpful, thank you for the quick reply too! I totally understand the concern of experimenting with a new formula- especially with a known irritant.
I will have to try Too Faced Born This Way soon. Right now, I am working through my Nars Radiant Creamy concealer. The coverage is excellent but the formula is too drying on me.

  3. Thanks for this review!

I’m glad you mentioned the packaging issue with the old formula. It drives me NUTS the amount of product I’ve wasted because of its poor stopper mechanism. At least they seemed to have improved it from what you said.

    1. You’re welcome! Unfortunately, my new one is getting messy as well, I posted an update on May 17. I included a photo in this post and in my Fantasy Makeup Declutter, Vol 2 post if you want to check it out and see if you feel like it is better than the old version or not. Thanks for commenting 🙂.

    1. I’m not sure. Is there another number on the back of bottle on a small translucent sticker ending with N, W, WO, WP, C, or CR?
