Update September 7, 2024: Bobbi Brown reformulated the bronzers to be talc-free in early 2024. Click here to read my review of the new formula and swatch of the shade Golden Natural (including comparison swatches).

I wanted to talk about some older products that I don’t hear mentioned much anymore, but they still manage to take up permanent residence on the brand’s bestsellers list. I have already done a best sellers post on MAC, MAC Vol. 2, Maybelline, NARS, Laura Mercier, and Clinique if you’d like to check those out. Today I’m revisiting some Bobbi Brown products.

Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder (deep, left swatch), $44.00

Update September 7, 2024: Bobbi Brown reformulated the bronzers to be talc-free in early 2024. Click here to read my review of the new formula and swatch of the shade Golden Natural (including comparison swatches).

This is a traditional matte bronzer that is easy to blend even when I use it over a foundation that I haven’t set with powder (I have dry skin). The good thing about this formula is that it is very buildable, so I think there is some wiggle room in the shade selection.  There are 6 shades in this range with varying undertones, but they could likely benefit from an expansion in both directions. I can work with Deep by using a light hand.

Bobbi Brown Deep Bronzing Powder, MAC Aladdin Your Wish is my Command Bronzer, and NARS Sunwash Diffusing Bronzer in Falaises Swatches on medium dark skin

Again, these are buildable, so the shade can go deeper than it appears in the above swatch. I have the shade deep swatched next to the now discontinued NARS falaises and MAC Aladdin bronzer. This image is from my old blog, but since I no longer have the bronzer, I still wanted to be able to show a shade comparison.

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick, $50.00

The Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick now comes in 43 shades with expanded undertones. Once upon a time, Bobbi Brown stuck to yellow undertones, but now they have some cool, neutral, and a few olive options to choose from. The brand does still run yellow, but in my opinion, they do have more versatility than they used to. This foundation has a beautiful natural satin finish on my dry skin type. I do use heavy oil-based moisturizers, so that may make a difference. It has medium coverage that I’d say is slightly buildable to full. I do have some hyper-pigmentation and acne scars that it doesn’t completely cover. I don’t have an issue with that, but I wanted to mention it since the brand claims it has medium to full coverage. In my experience, this foundation doesn’t dry down on its own. If you don’t like for your face to feel tacky, it benefits from being set with a powder. I would recommend applying this with a rounded buffing brush. The shape and densely packed bristles help the formula move smoothly across the skin.

Bobbi Brown’s prices can be painful, but the quality has always been great for me. I also find that the brand is very consistent from product to product, shade to shade. They don’t always have the most extensive shade selection, but each shade within a particular line tends to perform the same. For example, I find all of the single matte eyeshadows that I’ve tried to perform the same. All of the luxe lipstick shades that I’ve tried perform the same. So at least from what I’ve been able to try both from my purchases and from playing around at Bobbi Brown counters over the years, I’ve seen a lot of consistency.

Are you a Bobbi Brown Fan? Do you have any favorites you would recommend?

You may or may not have noticed, but this is not a normal posting day for me. I have some new endeavors that I’m going to be working on as I move further into 2022 and that means that my blog will be taking a backseat. As of right now, I do plan on continuing to post if and when I can. I’d recommend signing up to follow me either through WordPress or by email. You can find the follow me form on the sidebar or if you are on mobile, it is at the bottom of the page. I hope your new year is off to a good start. Thanks for reading!

  1. I somehow missed this post! I admired Bobbi Brown as a makeup artist before I was even truly into makeup. I used to have a book of hers for teenage makeup (or maybe it was my sister’s book) and I was fascinated how she was able to elevate looks that appeared so simple but I was convinced I could never replicate them. When I actually became interested in the makeup brand in college, of course her products were out of my price range. And then with her leaving the brand, I didn’t feel the same attachment, though the interest is always still there. So far I’ve just tried the foundation stick (I bought the wrong shade and didn’t return it so it sat unused in my collection), pot rouge (before I was truly interested in cream products so that also went to waste), and the highlighters. I’m not sure why I didn’t think to check out their bronzers! Perhaps because it’s not the biggest range.

    1. I had that same feeling with Bobbi Brown, I still have a couple of her books. I’ve thought about trying out her new brand Jones Road, but so far I’m just not pulled in by anything. I do miss her being a part of the brand for sure, but so far it still feels like they are following the direction she started. We’ll see if that continues to work for them. The bronzers are limited especially compared to what you can find on the market these days.
