Colourpop New Moon Eyeshadow Palette (Swatches and Review)

Colourpop New Moon Eyeshadow Palette Review and Swatches
Colourpop New Moon Eyeshadow Palette

I’m jumping right in today with a Colourpop review. The Colourpop New Moon Eyeshadow Palette is part of a limited edition collection that just restocked on the Colourpop website. I’m not a Twilight fan, so I can’t speak on how well Colourpop did at capturing the theme. However, since this was released a while ago, hopefully, there’s a review out there that goes into those details.

I bought mine during the initial release (January 2025) after watching Kolorful Kalmele’s video featuring the palette on YouTube. I want to give her a shout-out because at the time, she was the only person I could find featuring the palette who was close to my skin tone. My best foundation matches are NARS Tahoe and Estee Lauder 4W4.

Colourpop can be a little hit or miss for me, but I don’t have any major complaints with this palette. The matte eyeshadows are a little dry and powdery (not too messy), but I haven’t found that to interfere with their performance. And although they have a dry feel, they do not look dry on my eyelids. The shimmers are being called metallic, but they lean more satin. If applied with fingers, they do have more shine, which is normal in my experience, but Face Punch and Trade Secrets are the most metallic of the regular shimmers. I knew when purchasing the palette that I wouldn’t use the two pearlescent glitters. They are not my preference for eyeshadows, and I don’t enjoy how chunky and textured they feel. On the upside, there is no eye safety warning on this palette.

I have used the Colourpop New Moon Palette with both synthetic and natural hair brushes, and they work fine with both. I have noticed some differences in the amount of kick-up (when I dip my brush into the matte eyeshadows) depending on the brush I use. I first noticed it with the shade You’re Sorta Beautiful, and I’ve noted the specific brush differences under that description. However, those differences are true for all the matte shades, but none are so messy that they are annoying or unmanageable.

Shade-by-shade breakdown:

  • Mood Control (Metallic): It appears white in the palette picture, but it is actually yellow. It does provide some shine, but it is not quite metallic.
  • Marry Me (matte): This is a good blending shade. It has more kick-up than the other matte eyeshadows, but it blends easily.
  • Wolf Pack (pearlescent glitter): More translucent than the other glitter shade (adrenaline) but does have a little base pigment.
  • Alice (metallic): Looks dry and patchy when swatched, but works fine on the eyelids. You can’t see it in the pan, but it has a pink shift to it (see picture below). It leans more satin than metallic.
  • Senior Year (matte):  The color isn’t my favorite, but it blends easily, and I had no issues with it. It doesn’t seem to have as much kick-up as the other mattes.
  • You’re Sorta Beautiful (matte): This is a beautiful shade that is easy to blend. Definitely a favorite. It has the most kick-up of the matte eyeshadows, but I wouldn’t say it is unmanageable or messy. There is more kick-up when I use my Smashbox Shadow Blending brush than when I use the Sephora Pro Crease 26 or the Morphe M331 Eye Blender.
  • Adrenaline (pearlescent glitter): It has a good amount of base pigment, but I would still consider it a glitter topper.
  • Bloodsuckers (metallic): This leans more satin, but it can pick up some nice shine if worn on the center of the lid in a halo eye look.
  • Face Punch (metallic): This is my favorite shade in the palette, and it looks more metallic when applied with my fingers. It also looks smoother on my eyelids when used this way.
  • Trade Secrets (metallic): Another favorite shade, and as with Face Punch, it looks better when applied with my fingers for the added shine.
  • Paper Cut (matte): This description goes for all the dark matte eyeshadows (Paper Cut, OCT NOV DEC, Soul Reader, You’re Everything). They can start off a little patchy, especially over the MAC 24HR Eye Primer because it is grippy. When I use other eyeshadow primers or cream eyeshadows as bases, the patchiness isn’t as bad. The mattes do smooth out, but it takes a little time. Packing on the color first and just blending the edges afterward helps. For a softer look, using a lighter matte shade first helps with blending.
  • OCT NOV DEC (matte): Slightly patchy depending on eyeshadow primer, but can be smoothed out.
  • Soul Reader (matte): Slightly patchy depending on eyeshadow primer, but can be smoothed out.
  • Soulless Monster (metallic): I love a good green eyeshadow, and while this is one of my favorite shades in the palette, I do wish it had more shine. Again, it is better when applied with fingers, but I wish it were an actual metallic.
  • You’re Everything (matte): Slightly patchy depending on eyeshadow primer, but can be smoothed out.

For some reason, despite getting excited to see the palettes that Colourpop releases, I’m always surprised by how much I enjoy using them. I have to remind myself that it’s ok to like different products for different reasons. The outer packaging is part of what makes these types of Colourpop eyeshadows exciting for me. I like the feel of the packaging and think it’s well made. The only other limited edition palette I have from Colourpop is the Winnie the Pooh Sweet as Can Bee palette, and my experience with that palette is about the same. I’m happy that the New Moon Palette doesn’t have the matte finishes with micro shimmer, which the Sweet as Can Bee palette does.

It would be convenient for some people if it had a mirror; however, I prefer to use a separate mirror when I’m doing my makeup, so that is not a deal breaker for me. Overall, I think that $24 is a good value for this palette, especially if you’re a fan of the glitter shades. I still think I got my money’s worth for the packaging and performance, even without using the glitters. I also used a coupon code for 10% off. You can find a coupon code by searching Google or visiting retailmenot.com and searching for Colourpop. **I do have an affiliate code for 20% off $60+ (code 20OFF60), if you have a larger purchase planned. There is no pressure to make a purchase or use my links. You can always opt out or shop as you normally would.

  1. I can’t remember where I heard it, but I heard the current restock for this palette is the final restock. So, I’m still debating whether I want to get it while I can. The colors are still so appealing!

I’m also curious to see if they will continue making releases for the remaining movies.
