Best Hydrating Concealers for My Dry Skin

Best Hydrating and non-drying Concealers for My Dry Skin

Happy Saturday! I’m on somewhat of a mission to figure out how to best showcase great products that aren’t necessarily being buzzed about anymore. With that in mind, I thought providing this type of snapshot, focusing on hydrating and non-drying concealers, would be helpful. While I can only speak from my own individual experience, I hope this rundown will be helpful to others with dry skin. For reference, I am 42 and have dry, sensitive, eczema-prone skin. I struggle with darkness under my eyes, dark spots from the occasional acne scar, dry patches, and texture from eczema. 9 times out of 10, I have to set concealers when I wear them under my eyes. Hopefully, that gives you some insight into what I’m dealing with and how it affects my experience with these concealers.

While I’m only discussing 11 concealers today, you can find a concealer ranking on my website, which lists the 24 concealers I’ve reviewed. I will provide links to the full written review at the end of each summary in case you want more details. The Ami Cole Skin-Enhancing Concealer is the only concealer listed that doesn’t have a separate review.

The Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer, Lancome Care and Glow Serum Concealer, and Ami Cole Skin Enhancing Concealer are my picks for hydrating concealers. For non-drying concealers (but without added hydration), I’m featuring the Givenchy Prisme Libre Skin Caring Concealer, Estee Lauder Futurist Skincealer, Armani Luminous Silk Concealer, MAC Studio Fix Pro Conceal and Correct Palette, and Too Faced Ethereal Light Illuminating Smoothing Concealer. Then lastly, I’ll discuss some honorable mentions: Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer, Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Concealer, and Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Concealer.

Hydrating Concealers

These concealers actually add some hydration to my skin. I still have to moisturize well before applying them to avoid patchiness and separation. However, especially in the winter months, I notice that they give my skin a boost, which I don’t get from other concealers.

Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer 4WO New 2023 Reformulation Swatch
Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer 4WO (the current version available for sale is on the right)

**Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer ($40): While I’m still upset that Dior decided to add fragrance to their reformulation of the Forever Skin Correct Concealer, it performs well and leaves my under-eye area feeling hydrated. The formula is easy to blend and creases minimally, and is transfer-resistant. The brand claims a medium coverage that is buildable to full, but it never reaches full coverage for me. At best, I’d call it a high medium coverage.

Lancome Care and Glow Serum Concealer 405W Swatch

**Lancome Care and Glow Serum Concealer ($31): The Lancome Care and Glow Serum Concealer is a hydrating, medium coverage concealer with a radiant finish.  I was initially lukewarm about this concealer when I reviewed it in February 2024, but it has really grown on me. The radiance of this concealer is due to micro shimmer running through the formula. I don’t notice it looking shimmery while I’m wearing it. However, at the end of the day (after about 8 hours), if I look for it, I can see sparkles on my under-eye area. Although I have to work at building this concealer up to medium coverage, it has a slight blur to it that makes the coverage look a little more impressive. I’m honestly surprised I still use this concealer since I prefer higher coverage. When I pair it with a color corrector, however, I am usually happy with the result. I also like to use this on days when I’m not feeling like doing a full face. I’ll apply it under the eyes, on dark spots, and over the center of my face where I get redness, and it gives me a skin tint vibe. I do experience more creasing with this concealer than with the others on this list, so it requires a good powder to stay in place. I have noticed that as the formula ages (it has a 6-month shelf life), it dries out slightly, and the creasing becomes very minimal. I reviewed this in February 2024, and I opened a new tube earlier this month, immediately noticing how badly it was creasing again. I initially thought the change was because of using a different brush for application. However, after realizing how old my initial tube was, I started to think that maybe the age of the concealer was lessening the creasing.

Ami Cole Skin Enhancing Concealer Medium 1.5 Swatch Medium Dark Skin

The Ami Cole brand will be closing in September 2025.

Ami Cole Skin-Enhancing Concealer ($24): Ami Cole is a small, black owned, clean beauty brand that caters to deeper skin tones (source, not affiliated).  So, this range only has 12 shades.  The lightest shade is described as “light medium skin with neutral undertones,” and the darkest shade is described as “rich, ebony skin with red undertones.”  Keep that in mind, as not everyone will be able to find a shade in this range.  That is true of all shade ranges, of course, but I just want to make you aware.  I do still think the shade range needs work. The formula is creamy, blends beautifully (with fingers and brushes), and feels comfortable without being drying. It offers medium coverage, though the brand claims it’s buildable to full (I disagree). Using this concealer with a brush gave me better coverage. The finish is natural with a slight satin glow. I do wonder if it will look more radiant on those with normal and oily skin. I was surprised that it didn’t necessarily need setting powder, but it does fade throughout the day when not set. The Ami Cole Concealer doesn’t claim to be transfer-resistant, but the transfer is minimal. It does settle into creases over time, but I can only see that up close in the mirror. It doesn’t cause any irritation or accentuate my eczema issues, which is a plus. However, it isn’t smoothing or blurring, so there are better options if you deal with texture (Estee Lauder Skincealer, Too Faced Ethereal Light Concealer). I also appreciate that the Ami Cole Concealer shade Medium 1.5 works for me both under the eyes and on spots around my face.

Non-Drying Concealers (but I don’t feel hydrated after using them)

While I wouldn’t call these concealers hydrating, they don’t dry out my skin, and they don’t typically appear dry before the end of the day (8 to 10 hours of wear).

Givenchy Prisme Libre Skin-Caring Concealer N385 Swatch Medium Dark Skin

**Givenchy Prisme Libre Skin Caring Concealer ($39): The Givenchy Prisme Libre Skin Caring Concealer is a rare luxury offering with no added parfum. However, they did add a synthetic fragrance called ethylene brassylate. The scent does not bother me, but it does smell slightly better than the paint-like makeup smell. The Givenchy Concealer has a radiant finish, medium coverage, and I can skip setting powder even when worn under my eyes. I do think some will be able to build this to full coverage (if you don’t have trouble with creasing). When I attempt to build coverage, the creasing is intense, and I can see lines under my eyes from a distance. While Givenchy claims this formula is hydrating, I didn’t have that experience, but it never dried out my skin.

Estee lauder Futurist Soft Touch Brightening Skincealer 4W Swatch

**Estee Lauder Futurist Skincealer ($38): The Estee Lauder Futurist Skincealer is a smoothing, satin finish, high-medium coverage concealer.  My complaint with this concealer is that it creases badly without the right powder. I have found that the bareMinerals Mineral Veil Pressed Powder keeps it in place the best for me. Once I figured out this combination, I got a lot more use out of it.  The brand claims that the Futurist Skincealer can improve your skin’s hydration over time, but I haven’t noticed any improvement. In fairness, I’d say a week is the longest stretch that I’ve used only this concealer without rotating to something else. On the other hand, this concealer does sit nicely over dry patches when I have them, so maybe it does provide more hydration than I’m giving it credit for.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Concealer Dry Eczema Prone Skin
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Concealer

**Armani Luminous Silk Concealer ($42): The Armani Luminous Silk Concealer is easy to blend and only needs to be set when I use it under my eyes (that is typical for me).  It has a glow, so it is not as perfecting as a more matte finish. I wish it had more coverage. It barely reaches medium coverage for me. Despite being one of my lower coverage options, there is no fading throughout the day, and creasing is very minimal.  Like the Lancome Care and Glow Concealer, the Armani Luminous Silk Concealer has micro shimmer in the formula that provides its radiance. I can also notice the sparkle under my eyes at the end of the day with this concealer.  I do like the Lancome formula better now that I’ve gotten to know it better, but this is still a good option if you want a lighter coverage, radiant concealer.

MAC Studio Fix Conceal and Correct Palettes Dark and Medium deep Swatches Medium Dark Skin
MAC Studio Fix Conceal and Correct Palettes

**MAC Studio Fix Pro Conceal and Correct Palette ($42): There are a lot of formula changes happening at MAC Cosmetics, so I’m not sure if this product will remain in their lineup.  However, it is one of my favorites from the brand, and aside from wishing the shade range was better suited for me, I have always gotten along well with the formula. The Conceal and Correct Palette has a natural finish and a medium, buildable to full coverage. It wears well and never looks dry, even when set with powder. I do notice minimal creasing after about 6 hours, but it never looks bad and is only noticeable up close in the mirror.

Too Faced Ethereal Light Illuminating Concealer Gingersnap Caramel Drizzle Swatches
Caramel Drizzle (top) and Gingersnap

Too Faced Ethereal Light Illuminating Smoothing Concealer ($29): This concealer has medium coverage with a glowy/radiant finish.  It is easy to blend and smooth even when sitting over texture. I do have to pair this concealer with powder to minimize creasing, but it wears well after being set. I also wear this with a color corrector to improve the coverage, but I don’t think it’s a must for those who don’t struggle with dark spots.

Honorable Mention Concealers

These concealers feel comfortable to wear, and I don’t experience a dry feeling; however, they tend to look dry by the end of the day (8 to 10 hours of wear). Unless it’s cold and dry outside, I often opt for a concealer with better coverage over one with better hydration. That is where these next three concealers come in.

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer 435 Bisque Warm (435W) Swatch Review

**Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer ($31): The Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer is a matte, slightly blurring concealer with medium coverage. The formula is easy to blend, regardless of the application method, but I think it looks smoother when applied with a brush. I set this with powder because I have my typical under-eye creasing with this formula.  However, it does not move into lines when I wear it as a spot concealer on my face, so I don’t use powder when worn that way. This is an honorable mention because it is technically drier than everything else I’m discussing today, but it does not dry out my skin if I use it continuously. It also sits nicely over eczema texture, which is unusual for a matte finish on my dry skin.

Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Concealer T2 Review Swatches

**Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Concealer ($48): Westman Atelier claims that the Vital Skincare Concealer adds moisture that lasts after removal. I first tried this concealer after its release in September 2024, and I still haven’t noticed it adding moisture.  However, it is not drying and feels very comfortable to wear, so I’m giving it an honorable mention.  The Vital Skincare Concealer is a medium coverage, natural finish concealer that surprisingly wears better for me without powder. I can get full coverage when I apply this with my fingers, but it fades throughout the day, leaving me with medium coverage. When I use setting powder to improve the longevity of the coverage, it creases badly. Otherwise, creasing is minimal when I wear it without powder, and only noticeable when I look at it up close.

Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Concealer 5WO Tan Swatch

**Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Concealer ($60):  This is a light coverage concealer that builds to the brand’s promised medium coverage.  It is a lightly blurring, matte finish, and I don’t need to set it with powder.  I agree with the brand’s non-drying wear claim.  Tom Ford also claims that the formula is hydrating, but it is not for me. I wish the shade range worked better for me. I’m currently mixing shades 5WO Tan and 6WO Terra, and for an expensive concealer, that’s especially annoying.  Lucky for me, I buy it for either 40% or 50% off (depending on the current promotion) at the Cosmetics Company Outlet, an outlet store for brands under the Estee Lauder Companies’ Umbrella. As much as I like it, the Tom Ford Soft Matte Concealer does start to look dry after about the 8-hour mark. Considering that, and the fact that it also looks dry if I add powder, it makes it an honorable mention.

  1. To this day, I still think about the Dior concealer and want to try it, even though I don’t think it will work out for me (the coverage and the shade range). I have to repeatedly talk myself out of it. lol.
