Using the Natasha Denona Bloom Eyeshadow Palette prompted me to stop dragging my feet on finishing my review of the Natasha Denona Hy-Glam Concealer ($30). At first, I wasn’t going to post about it because there are so many reviews out there already. I have seen that people either love or hate this concealer. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of middle ground. I don’t love or hate it, although I would love it if my dry, sensitive, eczema-prone skin agreed with it better.
Before I talk about how the formula performed for me, I wanted to talk about the shades. The shade range is excellent because it has 50 concealer shades and 6 corrector shades. However, that also makes the shade range hard to navigate, and the Hy-Glam Concealer is only available in a limited number of Sephora locations. So, many people shopping for this concealer will have to rely on brand swatches, reviews, and swatches from YouTubers and bloggers. This made me want to post swatches of the shades I tried, especially after I struggled with the shade range. I had issues even though two of the times I purchased shades, I saw them in person. The undertones are diverse, but different than what I’m used to, and the number depth isn’t the same depth in every undertone. For instance, P7 is described as tan dark peach, but Y7 is medium yellow. In my mind, these should have the same depth but different undertones. This is not a unique problem for the Natasha Denona brand, but it is something I still wish was more straightforward.

My best foundation matches for shade reference are the NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation in Tahoe and the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation in 4W4. After swatching in person, I started with shade P7 and then ordered shade YP11 online. After the second time I went in-store to swatch shades, I finally settled on NY12. Unfortunately, I didn’t own all three simultaneously, so I couldn’t swatch all three together. Something else to note is that the color changes slightly as the Hy-Glam Concealer dries (see below in the swatch of NY12). It is common for matte concealers and concealers with added skincare (which this has) to dry down slightly darker.

Swatches – YP11 and P7

I knew I didn’t have a peach undertone (I’m warm olive), but I felt like P7 was a good depth and was hoping that the peach tone would give me the benefit of color correction. After testing P7 for a while, I decided the tone wasn’t giving me the best coverage, so I decided to try YP11. My thought process was that I have a lot of yellow in my skin, so it being yellow with a peach lean to it would give me coverage and correcting. YP11 was a better shade match for me and I got much better coverage out of it. But it gave me the bright under eye look, that I just don’t favor on myself.
Swatch of Natasha Denona Hy-Glam Concealer NY12

NY12 is a little dark for my overall skin tone, but since I have hyperpigmentation both under my eyes and around my mouth, going a little darker can help. When using this shade, I get the coverage I am looking for, and it also provides a little color correction for my under-eye discoloration.

The formula
The brand claims natural, medium-buildable coverage and a luminous matte finish. I agree with the coverage claim but feel it has more of a natural finish. Although it can look like a soft matte when my skin is drier, when compared to other “matte” concealers, I would describe this as looking hydrated rather than luminous. This looks a bit textured over eczema patches, and while that is expected, I have concealers that sit better over those issues. To name a couple, the Lancome All Over Concealer and Estee Lauder Futurist Skincealer work well when I have dry patches. Despite this, it still pairs well with several setting powders, such as the NARS Light Reflecting, bareMinerals Mineral Veil Pressed, NYX HD Finishing Powder and NARS Soft Matte Advanced Perfecting. The Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Pressed Powder was the only one I tried that made the Hy-Glam Concealer look drier than usual. I don’t think everyone will have to set the Hy-Glam Concealer but for me, it is necessary because I’m very prone to creasing. When it is unset, I have minimal creasing for around 4 hours, but things go downhill from there. When I set it with powder, it looks great all day, and I rarely have to pat out creases.
This concealer is finicky about application technique. It did not blend well and looked patchy when applied with fingers. Application was decent with the Sonia G Soft Concealer Brush (synthetic/Sokoho goat hair mix), but the concealer settled into my lines more during wear. I’ve had success with all synthetic brushes like the Smashbox Blurring Concealer Brush and the Sigma Soft Blend Concealer brush.
As I mentioned, the Natasha Denona Hy-Glam Concealer, despite performing well for me, irritates my sensitivities. Whenever I wear it, it makes my eyes water, and I have rotated the other products I’ve worn it with to be sure. A few times I’ve worn it, I also noticed soreness under my eyes. This concealer has added fragrance, which could be the issue. I don’t think the scent is overpowering. Although I can smell it initially, it doesn’t seem to linger. If that is not the issue, then it is just my luck that one of the ingredients disagrees with me. Speaking of ingredients, this concealer’s skincare claims are based on capsicum annuum leaf and portulaca grandiflora (expand the “what it does” section of their website to learn more). The capsicum annuum leaf provides firming, fades dark circles, reduces puffiness, and improves skin regeneration, and the portulaca grandiflora fights inflammation.
Concealer Comparison Swatches (Natasha Denona Hy-Glam NY12, Estee Lauder Futurist 5W, Lancome All Over 435W, Estee Lauder Double Wear 5W)

Hopefully, the picture shows how much closer the finish of the Natasha Denona Hy-Glam Concealer is to the finish of the Estee Lauder Futurist Skincealer than it is to the matte finish of the Lancome and Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealers. I let these dry for about 10 minutes before taking the picture. I’m not saying it can’t dry down more when worn on the face, it can. But in my experience, I wouldn’t label it as a matte finish.
I added this to my concealer ranking spreadsheet, if you are curious about how it compares to other concealers I have posted on my website.
TL;DR
| Natasha Denona Hy-Glam Concealer Claims | Do I agree? |
| Long-lasting & lightweight | Yes |
| Creaseless | I’d prefer to say crease resistant, this has minimal creasing for a few hours. When set with powder, minimal creasing for 8 to 10 hours. |
| Medium-buildable coverage | Yes |
| Luminous matte finish | No, I think it is a natural finish. When I am drier it does look more matte. |
| Increases skin hydration | Unsure, but it does look hydrated while I wear it |
| “…work instantly & over time to brighten dark circles, reduce puffiness, and blur the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles after 28 days of daily use.” | Part of it. There is a slight blurring of fine lines when I wear this, but nothing to the extent that you would see from a more matte finish or once the concealer is powdered. As for the rest of this claim, I’m unsure. Due to the concealer causing eye irritation and soreness under my eyes, I can not use it for 28 days in a row in order to find out. |

I forgot to mention it before, but this also works as a spot concealer on the rest of my face and doesn’t settle noticeably into my smile lines. So overall, the Natasha Denona Hy-Glam Concealer has its pros and cons. From the perspective that everything can’t be perfect, this concealer performs great for me. It’s high-medium coverage, minimal creasing, and how well it works with most powders impressed me. Unfortunately, I can’t look past the irritation issues I’ve discovered.
😅 That got longer than I expected. Thanks for reading!

Now that I think about it, I believe I forgot to review this! Oops! Haha.
That’s unfortunate about the irritation issue persisting since you would have liked it apart from that.

🤭 well if it was still giving you trouble I can see forgetting about it. Yea, it sucks when that happens.

I ended up using one shade for my face and the other as an eyeshadow primer, but that was before my project pan. Haha, which is partly why I stopped using it.

thank you for this detailed review and pictures attached. We in Africa order internationally off reviews and it can be very tricky because we can hardly return them. Thank you again.
