Say hello to the 2025 reformulation of a classic. Estee Lauder just launched a new Double Wear Stay in Place 24-Hour Concealer ($38) formula. The previous formula was one of my hero products, so I was intrigued to see how the new formula would stand up to it. They are somewhat similar in performance for me. I prefer the longevity and transfer resistance of the old formula, but I like the new formula’s more comfortable, less drying feel. Let’s get into the details.
First, some point of reference information. I had to mix 4W and 5W in the old formula, but the shades changed a bit. 5W in the 2025 formula works for my NARS Tahoe/Estee Lauder 4W4 skin tone. I recently got back from a trip to Vegas and it was sunny and warm the whole time. So I’m a little darker than my usual winter skin tone. When I bought this in Ulta, they didn’t have testers out yet, so I couldn’t see how the new shade range looked before purchasing. The range has 30 shades to choose from, so hopefully, people that typically buy a particular shade in Estee Lauder will also be able to do so in this formula.

The double Wear concealer dries down to the promised soft natural matte finish, and it feels comfortable to wear on my 42-year-old, dry skin type. One issue I do have with this formula is that it does cling to dry patches. Despite feeling comfortable to wear, it did not look great in an area where I had an eczema patch that was a little drier than the rest of my face. I can wear this concealer without powder and get good wear time. Surprisingly, it does wear better and smooths out the clinging issues when I set it with the bareMinerals Mineral Veil Pressed Powder. Unsurprisingly, it feels drier when worn with powder. When worn without powder, it does have good longevity, but it doesn’t look as fresh as the old formula did on me throughout the day. I typically wear makeup for 8 to 10 hours, for a point of reference. Creasing is very minimal with the 2025 version, which is the same as my experience with the previous formula. It does sink into lines ever so slightly, but I can’t see it from a normal viewing distance. I have to be up close in a handheld mirror to see it.
The formula is not necessarily tricky to blend, but it dries quickly, so I recommend working fast with one area at a time. This is a medium-coverage concealer, although it may be buildable to full coverage for some people. However, if you consider your darkness to be tenacious, it may fall short. This formula does build on itself, but if it is completely dry, it can lift up if you touch it. This puts the transfer-resistant claim into question for me, especially considering I didn’t have this issue with the previous formula. The brand recommends applying this concealer after your foundation (“for best results”), which makes me wonder if that suggestion is because of the lifting issue. I didn’t have the lifting issue every time, though, so it is hard to say exactly what is happening. On one occasion that I didn’t set the concealer with powder, I noticed some fading in the middle of the day. I was going out, so I wanted to get the coverage back. I added a layer of the concealer on top and set it with powder, and I had no issues. It wasn’t patchy, and it wore beautifully for the rest of the night. I’m not sure if it would have layered as well if it were set with powder initially, or if that only worked because I hadn’t set it.
Update September 19, 2025: Once warmer weather hit, I was able to enjoy this newly reformulated Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer without any clinging to dryness. I’ve also not had the issue with the coverage fading throughout wear, although I have been setting it with the NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder Pressed. I still don’t think everyone will need to set this concealer, as it wears all day with minimal creasing. However, the NARS powder doesn’t dry me out and helps keep the coverage intact throughout wear, so I’ll continue to use it with powder.

The stopper on this concealer cleans off a lot of the product, so there isn’t much on the doe foot. This works out fine since it dries quickly, and I’d recommend only applying to one area at a time anyway. But this concealer could get annoying if you like to use a heavy layer rather than building coverage.

Comparison Swatches (**Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer 5W – $38 vs **Estee Lauder Futurist Skincealer 5W – $38)

The size of the new **Estee Lauder Double Wear 24-Hour Concealer ($38) has been increased to .4 oz/12mL and costs $6 more than the old formula. It is now $38. However, the old formula was only 7mL ($32), so they added more value. There are, of course, better values on the market. I’m just saying that despite the price increase, you are getting more product for the money compared to the old formula.
Although the Double Wear and Futurist Skincealer have different finishes, they are the same shade name from the same brand, so I thought it would be good to compare them. I have a full review of the Futurist Skincealer if you want more information. It is smoothing, has good coverage, and a natural radiant finish, but it is prone to creasing.

TL;DR
| Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place 24-Hour Concealer Claims | Do I agree? |
| Medium to full coverage | Yes, although those with intense darkness may not get full coverage. |
| Soft-focus, natural matte finish | Yes, slight blur due to the matte finish. |
| “24-hour concealer” defined as: 24-hour wear 24-hour oil control 24-hour color-true 24-hour non-caking 24-hour non-streaking 24-hour non-poring 24-hour settle- and crease-resistant | Kind of. I’ll never know if it works for 24 hours, but I think it controls oil, stays the same color, doesn’t look cakey, doesn’t make my pores look bad, and is settle- and crease-resistant. |
| Immediate moisture | No, although I don’t find it to be drying. |
| Water and transfer resistant | No. I think it lasts well but is not as bulletproof as the previous formula. |
| Sweat and humidity resistant | Update September 25, 2025: Yes. I have experienced good longevity during the summer and haven’t noticed any fading or patchiness after walks. |
I added this to my concealer ranking spreadsheet, if you are curious about how it compares to other concealers I have posted on my website.
Although I wish it were as transfer-resistant and looked as fresh as the old formula, I appreciate that the new Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place 24-Hour Concealer is more comfortable for me. I’d recommend it if you are looking for a new matte concealer with decent coverage. However, I wouldn’t say you need to run out and buy it if you already have a concealer that you like. I have previously mentioned that matte concealers tend to dry me out if worn regularly. I haven’t found that issue with this formula, but I’ll let you know if that changes. Update September 19, 2025: I haven’t had any problems with this drying me out over time when I wear it consistently.
That’s it from me today. 👋🏽 Thanks for being here!

You’re welcome. Estee Lauder often gets me with their releases lol. Yea, if I’m remembering correctly you’ve been enjoying satin finish concealers lately, so I’d wait on this one. It does perform better than Futurist though.
