Today, I wanted to revisit some makeup products that have been on the market for a while. These are products that I don’t always have an occasion to talk about, but I still use them. For two of them, the formula stands out to me; for the other, it is the color that has me continuing to use it. So let’s talk about and see some pictures of the Covergirl Trublend So Flushed High Pigment Blush in Sweet Seduction ($8.98 @ Walmart), the Maybelline Made For All Color Sensational Lipstick in Mauve For Me ($5.64 @ Walmart), and the Dior Addict Shine Lipstick in 716 Dior Cannage ($46 @ Sephora). For shade reference, my best foundation matches are Estee Lauder 4W4 Hazel and NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Tahoe.

Also, if you like hearing about makeup that has been on the market for a long time, here are other “What’s Old at X” types of posts that I’ve done.

I originally posted my review for the Covergirl Sweet Seduction blush in May of 2021, and I’m still a fan of this formula. This line of blushes was released in 2020 with three shades, and Covergirl has added two shades since then, which is a good sign of the brand’s success with this line. I can’t speak for all of the shades, but Sweet Seduction has a satin finish, which can be hard to find. It has just enough sheen to add a healthy look to my face, but I don’t find it to accentuate texture. It blends easily and is pigmented without being hard to control.

The Color Sensational Lipsticks from Maybelline are an old standby at the drugstore with a vast shade range, and the Made For All Line up was released in 2018, expanding the options even further. I first purchased Made For Mauve sometime in 2019, and while I think it looks more pink on me than Mauve, I still love it. The Maybelline Color Sensational Cream formula is comfortable and moisturizing but will be a problem for anyone with a lanolin allergy. For those that can use lanolin, these lipsticks are pigmented, smoothing, and wear down gracefully. I do line my lips with MAC Mahogany Lip Liner when I wear this shade, so that does deepen the tone a little. I’ll add some comparison swatches below for reference so you can see how pink it is for being called Mauve For Me.

Dior is more of a weird honorable mention because it has only been two years since I first purchased this formula. I think it was released in March 2022 and may have been a reformulation, but I could be wrong. However, with the pace that beauty products release, even something released a month ago can feel old sometimes. As I mentioned in my Best and Worst Products of 2023 Post, this isn’t a product I’d recommend because I think there are better lipsticks on the market for less money. However, since I bought it, I’ve been using it and it does work into my looks very easily. It is also easy to reapply it without a mirror, and I’ve never caught myself in a mirror looking crazy after having done so 😂. It is good that it is easy to reapply because it disappears quickly. I drink a lot throughout the day, which will make things wear down faster, but I get better wear out of other formulas.

Putting this together was a good reminder that sometimes, when you find something that is “good enough,” you don’t need to keep looking for something to top it. I originally couldn’t see myself repurchasing the Dior lipstick, but after continuing to use it, I’m not sure it makes sense to go looking for a replacement. I might spend more than it costs on colors and formulas that don’t work for me. It is much easier to consider repurchasing the Covergirl Blush and the Maybelline Lipstick. They are affordable and perform great for me. I’m not surprised by that, though. I have been purchasing Covergirl blushes and Maybelline lipsticks since I started wearing makeup. I do wish that Covergirl Trublend Line had a bigger range of shades. On the other hand, when I buy a second shade of something, I often still prefer the first color I picked out.

Are any products still standing out to you this year despite being older releases?

Enjoy the rest of your week!

  1. I still like Sweet Seduction enough to be including it in my upcoming project pan. I actually forgot the only reason I gave it a try was because of one of your past posts reviewing it. 😀 So, I thank you once again!

      1. Thank you! And also to anyone else reading these comments, I should clarify that it’s a favorites-only Project Pan…not the kind of Project Pan intended to use up something more before getting rid of it. I forgot to put that in context. I love the Covergirl Trublend line and also wish they expanded the range!

        1. That sounds like a good plan. I can’t wrap my head around using up a product I don’t feel or look my best wearing. I know some people have their reasons for doing that, though.
