MAC MACximal Sleek Satin Lipsticks – Creme In Your Coffee And Paramount (Swatches)

MAC Cosmetics will always take up some space in my makeup bag, but I’m especially excited about this new lipstick formula. Since I tried my first MAC lipstick back in 2013, I have always kept a few colors around. Never because of the formula, though; it was always the color selection that kept me wearing them. They always have a variety of finishes to choose from, but regardless, I found the old formulas drying. That all changed with the Lustreglass formula, which I liked, but I wasn’t impressed with the formula. Enter the new MACximal Sleek Satin Lipstick ($25), which has delivered the beautiful, flattering colors I’ve come to expect from MAC but in a moisturizing, comfortable-to-wear formula. And unlike my experience with the Lusterglass formula, the shine sticks around.

The packaging is weighted and feels very nice.  It is also a little taller than the older bullets. Overall, it still has the classic MAC bullet look and the signature vanilla scent. It has been a while since I’ve used the discontinued Satin formula, but I think the MACximal Sleek Satin has a shinier finish. It feels thin and lightweight on the lips, but there is a slight tack to it. When I touch my lips together, I am reminded that I have it on, but other than that, it is lightweight and easy to ignore.  Sometimes, I notice the formula settles into the corners of my mouth, but it is never an eyesore, and I haven’t had any end up on my teeth.  I don’t feel like the formula is very slippery, so I’m not sure what is causing that. On the upside, it doesn’t settle into the lip lines or feather into the fine lines around my upper lip.

Comparison Swatches (L’oreal Worth It Medium, Revlon Rose Velvet, MAC Mahogany, NARS Bohemian Rhapsody)

The closest reference shades I have for MAC’s Creme In Your Coffee are the L’oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Worth It Medium and the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Rose Velvet. The closest shade I have to MAC’s Paramount is MAC’s Lip Pencil in Mahagony, although this is the old formula. The brand also recently revamped the lip pencils, so I’m unsure if the new mahogany is the same. Unfortunately, I only had matte options to compare Paramount to, and the NARS Powermatte Lip Pencil in Bohemian Rhapsody was close, but it is not as red.

MAC’s claims on this one aren’t too wild. The brand says they are full coverage and provide 8 hours of comfort and hydration. They also say the lips will appear full and be plumped with moisture. I can’t say for sure that the hydration lasts for 8 hours, but my lips feel good both when I’m wearing this formula and after I’ve taken it off. I haven’t experienced any dryness or chapping of my lips. I think my lips appear full, and since my lip lines look smooth with it on, I guess I can also agree it plumps a bit. One thing they claim that I’m unsure about and won’t be testing is that it can be used on cheeks. So, if you like to use your lipstick as blush, that could be a bonus for you. There isn’t an actual claim about wear time, but being a traditional cream type of lipstick, it will need some reapplying throughout the day. I drink water and tea all day (no straw), so I typically get 3 to 4 hours of wear with most lipsticks. At that point, I usually feel like I’ve lost enough color and shine that I’d like to reapply. This formula hasn’t been any different and wears down nicely. I’m glad I gave the MAC MACximal Sleek Satin Lipsticks a chance. They’ll definitely be in heavy rotation for me.

Enjoy the rest of your week 🙂
