This Forgotten Best Sellers series allows me the opportunity to talk about older products that still dominate a brand’s best sellers list. To keep it simple, I use the brand website’s best seller list rather than separate retailers. I have already done a best sellers post on MAC, MAC Vol. 2, NARS, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, and Laura Mercier if you’d like to check those out.
I have to admit that it was January 2023 when I initially looked at the best sellers listed on the Maybelline website, and the products have definitely shifted since then. Maybelline has also changed the website design since then, and it is not easy to view more than 8 best sellers. So I also checked Walmart, Ulta, and Target to at least make sure the items I’m talking about today make sense to feature. So getting into it, today I’ll be spotlighting the Nudes of New York Eyeshadow Palette, The Falsies Lash Lift Mascara, and the Color Sensational Made For All Lipsticks.
Maybelline Nudes of New York Palette, $13.99 (Walmart.com and Amazon)

In my opinion, the Maybelline Nudes of New York Eyeshadow Palette is a standout product at the drugstore. It’s a shame that it seems to have disappeared from actual store shelves, but it is still a permanent product and I’ve seen it on both the Walmart and Amazon websites. Overall, the Nudes of New York is a warmer neutral palette, but if you lean into shades like soloist, pioneer, protector, heroine, and self-starter for some of your looks, you can keep things from looking overly warm.

The matte eyeshadows in this palette are powdery which isn’t my favorite type of formula, but it is easy enough to lightly tap my brush off so powder doesn’t get everywhere. These eyeshadows are very easy to work with and although they do have decent pigmentation, if you have a deeper skin tone I think they might take some building up. I have no issues with fall out during application or while wearing these eyeshadows throughout the day.
Maybelline The Falsies Lash Lift Mascara, $9.99 (Target)

The Maybelline The Falsies Lash Lift Mascara was my favorite drugstore mascara until very recently. I’ve been using the Falsies Lash Lift for several years. It does give me volume and a nice lift that lasts all day, but it doesn’t do much for length. It doesn’t clump my lashes together too badly, but I have used volumizing formulas that do a better job of separating my lashes. It flakes throughout the day but it usually isn’t very noticeable.

The wand is large for my eyes and that can get annoying at times. The only wand I can show you for size comparison is the MAC In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash Mascara. Although the Maybelline wand is fatter, the MAC wand is longer and does make it even harder for me to use than the Maybelline. The formula has treated me well over the years, but it no longer stands out for me in terms of volumizing. The Maybelline The Falsies Lash lift is still a great formula for lift (especially since I don’t use an eyelash curler), but based on my preferences for more length and separation, I do now prefer the Falsies Surreal Extensions that Maybelline released earlier this year.
Maybelline Color Sensational Made For All Lipstick, $5.48 (Walmart) – $6.49 (Target)
The Maybelline Made For All Lipstick launch was, in my opinion, a revolutionary concept. According to Maybelline, these lipsticks feature “specially selected and obsessively tested pigments that make these universal lipstick shades look sensational on all complexions.” Now of course, it is a hard sell to say that anything will universally look good on all complexions, but they did claim to have tested these on 50 skin tones. I’ve tried 4 shades since these were released and I do think they all look nice on me. You can see me wearing Maybelline Mauve For Me in this post.

The formula of the Made For All lipstick is the same as Maybelline’s traditional cream line. If you are new here, this formula is one of my favorites. Nothing has changed about the formula with these shades, they are comfortable, moisturizing, and provide good pigmentation. I’m always impressed when I go back to wearing these because they have such a nice amount of shine and moisture but still manage to wear down gracefully. While this formula does have some thickness to it, it doesn’t feel heavy. Two things to keep in mind with this formula are that it contains lanolin and it also has a scent.
If you don’t like any of the shades in the Made For All Lineup, Maybelline has a ton more to choose from. I do think the Made For All Formula is more pigmented than some of the older classic shades. Come to think of it, the newer colors released in the classic line color sensational (E.g. brick beat) are also more pigmented. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to keep in mind.

I used to love the Maybelline Falsies mascara and actually was considering getting the Falsies Surreal Extensions to try out. If you like that one more, I’ll probably like it too. I have too many new ones now though, so I’m going to try it further into the future.
