Today I wanted to talk about some products that I think are good products but they just aren’t the best for my personal preferences. I should probably declutter them, but because they have redeeming qualities I just can’t seem to do it. I haven’t had the opportunity to talk about the NARS Soft Matte Advanced Perfecting Powder and the Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Luminous Matte Concealer on my blog yet so this will be a quick review of those. However, the Dior Forever Correct Concealer will be a product update if you follow my blog regularly. If you want more information on that concealer, it has a full review posted that you can check out by clicking here.

NARS Soft Matte Advanced Perfecting Powder Bay Swatch Medium Dark Skin

For my dry skin type, this is a nice talc-free mattifying powder. It does not make me look too dry but can feel tight on my skin on my driest days when the weather is coldest here in Massachusetts. It’s a fine powder but mostly I just no longer prefer a matte finish. My skin is drier than it’s ever been so I just like products that leave me with a little more sheen. I have my doubts about this being mattifying enough for oily skin types, but of course, I can’t say for sure. I’m hoping that this will be more useful once the temperature rises (and actually stays high) in the coming months because my t-zone does become more normal in the summer. Only time will tell, so I’ll reevaluate how I feel about this powder in the next few months.

Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Luminous Matte Concealer, $31.00

Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Luminous Matte Concealer 6.5G Brittle Swatch Medium Dark Skin

I love the full coverage of this concealer, I’m just too dry to get away with it on a daily basis. I have noticed that applying it with my fingers gives me the least dry look with the least creasing. With my normal moisturizer, this dries out and separates within about 3 hours. If I use an eye cream, which I almost always skip, it solves the separation problem but it still feels dry. I’ve noticed that if I wear this for even two days in a row it noticeably dries my skin out. I don’t set this with powder and it wears well for about 5 hours before I start to see minor creasing (which is good for me). I like this shade (6.5G Brittle) because it works for both my under eye and my face but I could go lighter for my under eye area. I do think this is a good concealer it just isn’t right for my dry skin despite being highly recommended by other dry skin types. Like with the NARS powder, I am hoping this will be more agreeable in some hotter weather.

I mentioned in my full review that the stopper on the newly reformulated Dior Forever Skin Correct was a bit tighter and I thought that it would keep the concealer from being as messy. Well, unfortunately, that is not the case and it does still get pretty messy. I haven’t had any issue with it making a mess in my makeup bag thus far and I haven’t cleaned it off since I purchased it in February. Since this was a big complaint with the old formula, I just wanted to point it out.

My main issue for wanting to declutter this concealer is the fragrance. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I have sensitive skin and do typically avoid fragrance in my makeup. I wouldn’t describe the fragrance as overwhelming but when I use this as a foundation it becomes overwhelming to me. I did like to use the old formula as a foundation from time to time, but I won’t be able to do that with this formulation again, the smell was just too much for me. When used just as an under eye concealer, I can still smell it for a good 30 minutes or so after application and that just bothers me. Unfortunately, I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to get past the fragrance. I still like the formula itself though, so I’m hanging on to it for now.

If you like this concept, I’ve done one other post like it that you can check out by clicking here.

  1. The glaring thing in my collection I’m holding onto is the Ami Cole concealer. I’m so determined to get use out of it and try mixing it with things or using different techniques. It’s just…not perfect for me. But I keep trying (and even took it on the trip with me). lol.
