Laura Mercier recently released a small collection with 1 Highlighting Powder and 6 new Caviar Sticks. So far, I have only seen the highlighting powder available directly from the Laura Mercier website. The caviar sticks are also available directly from Laura Mercier’s website, but they are also available on the Sephora website.

RoseGlow Caviar Stick Eye Color, $29.00 (Forbidden Rose)

The Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks seem to be a cult classic, but this was my first time trying the formula. This new finish is supposed to have a dewy lustrous finish with intense pigment. I can’t say for certain what dewy lustrous means, but I would describe Forbidden Rose as a satin finish. I do think it is nicely pigmented, but I did expect more glow based on the name and lustrous description. It builds on itself easily for more intensity and there is enough time to blend the edges before it dries down.

I was able to wear this with no eye primer under it and had no creasing. I typically have to use an eye primer but cream shadows usually work fine for me without one. The Caviar Stick also works well as a base for powder eyeshadows. I was able to blend other shadows over it without trouble. So while I was hoping for a bit more shine from this product, it does perform nicely.

RoseGlow Highlighting Powder, $30.00

I wasn’t originally going to order this, but Laura Mercier is making a bold claim with this product that had me intrigued. The brand claims that the RoseGlow Highlighting Powder “self-adjusts to all skintones.” We have all heard about universal products and we know they never truly are universal. But I have to say, all of the models they used for the campaign did look nice in this shade. So I just had to see for myself.

I have to admit, I really love it. It does work for me (Estee Lauder 4W4) but too many layers and it does start to look icy. Since it does look icy to me if I apply too much, I do have to wonder if this would appear ashy on skin tones deeper than mine.

On the upside, no matter how heavy I apply this, it does not emphasize texture. I have used this with both synthetic and natural hair brushes and both work great with this formula. The synthetic brush does pick up more powder than natural hair, so I had to be more careful with application when using a synthetic brush. But other than that, the results were the same with both.

It would be a shame if this doesn’t actually work for all skin tones, but the marketing definitely worked on me 😂. If you have given this a try, let us know your skin tone and how it worked out for you in the comments below.
