MAC Love Me Liquid Lip Colour (Swatches of Bated Breath, E for Effortless, and Coffee and Cigs)

Disclaimer: I was fortunate enough to be sent a package to try out 3 of the new MAC Love Me Liquid Lip Colours.  This was not a PR package, it was sent out to customers and I happened to receive one.  The opinions I offer in this post are my own and I did not agree to feature or speak positively about these products.

Bated Breath, E for Effortless, and Coffee and Cigs, $25.00**

The Love Me Liquid Lip Colour** is basically a liquified version of their regular Love Me Lipstick range. They have a satin finish and do not dry down to the matte longwear finish that you may traditionally think of when you hear liquid lipstick. If you have ever tried the Milani Amore Shine Liquid Lip Color, then you will have an idea of what this formula is like.

To me, they feel just as comfortable and moisturizing as the regular lipstick line. I can’t speak to longevity or wear just yet, but they are very pigmented and the applicator makes it easy to be precise with application. Mac describes it as a “flexible, arrowhead-shaped applicator.”

Some of the shades of this new line correspond to the bullet lipsticks of the same name. You can tell that they attempted to get these colors as close as they could, but the shade Bated Breath is a little different in the two formulas. The Love Me Liquid Lip Colour definitely has more pigment than the original lipstick line. It is also a slightly deeper shade overall. I have tried other shades in the regular lipstick line in the past and in addition to Bated Breath, they were also light to medium coverage at best. So your natural lip color plays more of a role in how the bullet lipstick colors will look than the liquid version.

For me, the colors are close enough to consider them the same shade, but again, the coverage can make a difference in how they might appear depending on your lip color. I think if they had changed the names for the repeat shades people would have found it confusing that the shades appeared to be dupes. The shades that appear in both bullet and liquid form under the Love Me line are Bated Breath, Coffee and Cigs, E for Effortless, and Laissez-Faire.

UPDATE June 2, 2021: E for effortless leaves a stain behind which makes it wear a little longer than the other shades I’ve tried (bated breath and coffee & cigs). The brand claims a 12 hour wear and while I’m not one to keep lipstick on for that long, I do think they have good staying power. They look fresh much longer than a traditional bullet lipstick that I’d typically touch up after about 4 hours. The one problem I’m having with the formula is that it does get on my teeth and that isn’t a problem I typically have. I have tried pairing it with MAC’s lip primer and they still manage to get on my teeth.

The MAC Love Me Liquid Lip Colour retails for $25.00 and comes in 18 shades.**

Do you have plans to give these a try? Or do you prefer a liquid lipstick that will dry matte?
