If you follow the beauty industry closely, then you know that new releases are happening all the time. So let’s discuss what new products are on my radar this week.
Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow 897 Sprint, $63.00: It feels like it has been a while since I’ve been interested in a Dior collection. In actuality, it was summer last year when I purchased from the Wild Earth collection, so I guess it wasn’t such a while ago. I really enjoy their eyeshadow formula, I find it easy to use and foolproof. This 5-pan eyeshadow palette is part of their Color Games Collection for Summer 2020. The collection includes a full range of products with each category coming in two different color variations. For instance, this palette is the warm tone choice but they also have a cooler tone option called 287 Dive. So you’ll also find two color choices in the rouge blushes, Dior Addict Lip Maximizers, Colour and Contour eyeshadow/eyeliner duos, Mineral Nude Bronzers, Lip Tattoos, and Vernis Nail Lacquers. Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder in Warm Glow, $48.00: Bobbi Brown has released their Summer Glow collection for summer 2020. There are six pieces in the collection according to the Bobbi Brown website. Highlighters always tend to catch my eye and while I have tried Bobbi Brown’s shimmer bricks, I’ve never tried this highlighter formula from them. This does seem to be a formula that people consider to be intense, which I typically steer away from. But then again, there are a lot of reviews that say the shimmer bricks are too glittery and I don’t find that to be the case for me.
Bobbi Brown Precise Blending Brush, $50.00: This brush is being released as part of the Summer Glow collection I mentioned above. I can’t recall the last time Bobbi Brown released a new full-sized brush. The thing I find surprising is that they are marketing this as a highlighter brush. I personally think this looks too dense for highlight. I would have expected this to marketed as a companion for the bronzers that are part of the two bronzer blush duos. I also know that intense application of highlight is quite popular, but I wouldn’t think this brand’s customer base would apply highlight heavily. Historically, people looking for a natural and toned down makeup style have flocked to Bobbi Brown. I suppose the customer base could be different these days. It’ll be interesting to see future releases to see if they have in fact gained a following from customers that want a less natural look. The description doesn’t state if the fibers are natural hair or synthetic, but I would hope it is natural hair for $50.00. With regard to quality, Bobbi Brown brushes are sturdy and well constructed. I’ve had a few of their natural hair brushes for years and they are still in great condition. They pick up just the right amount of product and blend well. The downside for me is that I do find them scratchier than other brushes and at this high price point that is disappointing. I don’t hear other people complaining about scratchiness, so maybe it has to do with my sensitive skin. The blush brush I have also has a longer than the typical handle and this one looks comparable. If you are heavy-handed with blush and highlight (and don’t want to be) that could be perfect for you. The further down the handle you hold a brush, the less pressure you use, giving a softer application.
Sigma Beauty Iconic Brush Set, $89.00: This 5-piece brush set with makeup bag included features one of Sigma’s newer innovations, waterproof brushes. This set includes some of their best selling brushes in the new waterproof “patented interlocking ferrules.” The brushes included are the F80 Flat top kabuki, F37 Spotlight Duster, F03 High Cheekbone Highlighter, E38 Diffused Crease, and the E54 Medium Sweeper. I’ve never tried the classes F80, but I do love my F80 air. Sigma brushes are great quality, they offer 20% to 30% off sales very often, and they come with a 2-year warranty that I’ve never had to use. I’ve had their F84 brush for over 4 years and never had an issue. I do want to point out more specifically that the waterproof claim only applies to the handle and ferrule construction. If you’ve used makeup for long enough, you’ve probably experienced a brush breaking into two pieces where the glue attaches the ferrule to the brush handle. they are claiming to have made that connection waterproof and they have a patent for the technology. If you don’t really care about the technology of it and just want brushes that look pretty but also function well, Sigma brushes fit the bill in my experience.
