Sneaking in one last post before the new year. 🙂
The good: Things were off to a great start with the Revlon Colorstay Flex Wear Full Cover Concealer, and I find it to be high coverage, easy to use, and long-wearing on my 41-year-old, dry eczema-prone skin type.
The weird: After only a week of using it, I discovered that the formula for the shade Deep (060) had seemingly gone bad. I also bought the shade Medium Deep (050), and that formula is still the same as when I opened both tubes in September. I’ll talk you through the details.

I am impressed with the coverage and performance of this concealer, and I don’t need to set it with powder for my dry skin type. It does get dry looking by the end of my day (@ 10 hours), but that is not surprising considering the matte finish and my skin type. On the upside, it never felt tight or dry. Color selection is a slight issue (for me) because the Medium Deep (050) is too light, and the Deep (060) is too dark. Latte (055) falls between the two shades but has a cool undertone, so I can’t make that work. Deep (060) was passable by itself in September when I still had my summer tan, but it was still a little dark even then. It is not abnormal for me (Estee Lauder 4W4/NARS Tahoe) to mix shades, and I often buy two. So I can tolerate the need to mix Medium Deep and Deep.
Swatches – Revlon Colorstay Flex Wear Full Cover Concealer Medium Deep (050) and Deep (060)

Shade Comparison Swatches

The Revlon Colorstay Flex Wear Concealer retails for $12.99, but you can buy it for $9.74 at Walmart and on Amazon. If you happen to be a military spouse like myself, you may also have it available at your Base Exchange (tax free) for $11.90. And, of course, there are often sales and coupons for drugstore products. When thinking about the shade Medium Deep (050) and how the formula of that shade has remained stable, I’d say the price is good, and this is worth the purchase. However, it gets complicated to recommend this formula considering the issues with the shade Deep (060).

From what I’ve experienced, there must be a batch/formula problem with the shade Deep (060) because the formula began to separate about one week after I purchased it. I bought a second tube (for science), and the same problem happened. However, Shade Medium Deep (050) is stable and hasn’t had separation issues. Since I no longer feel comfortable mixing the shades, I won’t continue to use this concealer. I can kind of get away with Medium Deep (050) by itself now that I’m more of my winter shade, but it is too bright for my taste. I’m not a fan of the brighter under-eye look on myself. I have tried to shake them up and use the doe foot to mix the formula back together, but nothing works.
I contacted Revlon directly about this issue and waited for a response before posting this review in hopes that I could provide some insight into what is happening. While I didn’t get any information confirming if they were having any batch issues, they gave me two coupons that covered the value I paid for both Deep (060) Concealers. They also informed me that my comments were forwarded to the appropriate personnel. I’ll update this post if any additional information comes my way from Revlon.
So that is the good and the weird with the Revlon Color Stay Flex Wear Full Cover Concealer. I will also add that I’ve seen a few rave reviews for this concealer, and none seem to have texture issues. However, those reviews were all from people with light skin tones, so they don’t have the shade Deep (060). I have also returned to where I purchased these concealers and looked at all the tubes still on the shelf. The formula for all of them still looks normal. So, it does seem to be an issue that happens once the concealer is opened.

Oh wow, that is super weird that only shade 60 separates like that. I’m glad Revlon tried to give some kind of compensation. I could see another brand asking to ship a replacement or something, which could have ended up with you getting a third one that would most likely go bad a week later again, which would have been unhelpful.

It really is strange, I’ve been checking the different retailers for reviews to see if anyone else mentioned this issue. So far, nothing.
