Depending on how long you’ve been visiting my website, you may remember when I talked about the Armani Beauty Lip Power Longwear Satin Lipstick ($45) in the shade 400. It was over 2 years ago, but I did not have a good experience and labeled it a failure. I purchased the Shade 400 as part of a set while I was on a trip to Las Vegas. There is an Outlet called the Luxury Beauty Store, and it carries brands that fall under the L’oreal Group. I’m mentioning this because I started to wonder if the set I bought was old stock, considering that it was at an outlet store. It is common for outlets to carry overstock and discontinued products, so the items can be older. I saw a lot of people raving about these lipsticks, and the hype got to me. So, I purchased the Armani Lip Power in shade 107 Sensual in October last year to find out if my experience with shade 400 was a fluke. Long story short: the performance of shade 107 is much better, but I stand by my opinion that the formula is slightly drying.

In fairness, 107 Sensual is a new color added to the shade range a couple of years after the Lip Power Satin Lipsticks were initially launched. So, it is possible that the formula could be a little different. The finish of shade 107 is also a true satin, whereas shade 400 was shinier. My biggest issue with the formula was that it did not stay put and would move outside my lip lines and into the corners of my mouth. I have not experienced that with 107. It stays put and wears well. I do think this is longwearing for a cream lipstick, but only if you are ok with a faded/blurred version of the color. After about 3 1/2 hours, I do like to touch up with this formula. That is not far off from what I experience with other formulas as someone who drinks a lot (no straw) throughout wear. If I don’t touch it up at that point, it does look fine, but naturally, the sheen it has fades, as does the color. The dryness I mentioned isn’t terrible. The formula sets down on the lips, so the nature of that is a little drying. It doesn’t cause chapping or damage to my lips; I just have more comfortable formulas.

Comparison Swatches (Charlotte Tilbury 90’s Pink, Charlotte Tilbury Nude Romance, Chanel Alter Ego 209)

The Armani Beauty Lip Power Longwear Satin Lipstick ($45) is a solid formula, and I can see why people like it so much. Armani Beauty’s claims for this formula are not outrageous, but I don’t agree with all of them. I agree that the formula has vivid color, has a satin finish, and provides a precise application. I disagree that it wears for 8 hours and stays comfortable all day. As mentioned, I drink a lot and don’t use a straw. So, always keep that in mind when I’m knocking a lipstick for its wear time. This lipstick also retails for $45 for 3g of product, and some lipsticks have better value than that. One that feels comparable to me and that I love is the Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipsticks, which are $35-$38 for 3.5g. It may not sound like it, but I’m glad I gave this formula another try. The formula doesn’t accentuate my lip lines or feather into the fine lines around my upper lip. The color is also worth the slight dryness (to me). Finding a shade that I can wear without lip liner is always nice!

Hi,
I’m M Lavanya. Have you tried using a hydrating lip balm underneath? It might help with the slight dryness without affecting the satin finish! Is it more suitable for a dusky skin tone?

I prep my lips with balm before starting my makeup, but I do wipe off excess before applying, otherwise it sheers the color and becomes more of a tinted balm. I just prefer a full color cream lipstick and there are others that are better for me. I’m not sure how it would look on a dusky skin tone.
