The **Lancome Care and Glow Serum Concealer ($31) adds another option of skincare meets makeup to the beauty market. Lancome says this is 81% serum, and it really shows in the results I got from this product. I do feel like my skin benefits from the skincare aspects of this concealer (ceramides, peptides, and hyaluronic acid), but I don’t get the result that I want from a concealer. That said, I think this is a good product for someone looking for a radiant, hydrating concealer that can be built up to medium-ish coverage (with patience).

Lancome Care and Glow Serum Concealer Ingredients

I wanted to bring particular attention to the ingredients of this concealer because they are incorrect on Lancome’s website. Initially, I was not going to try this concealer because the Lancome website lists it as having denatured alcohol, which is something I avoid as much as possible. However, when I went to Sephora one day, I decided to check the ingredients on the box, which was entirely different. From what I can tell, someone listed the ingredients for the Tient Idole Ultra Wear Foundation by mistake. A lot of brand websites will advise you to check the box of the item you are going to purchase for the most up-to-date ingredients. This is a good example of why that is important, in addition to the fact that products get reformulated and there isn’t always an announcement.

**The Lancome Serum Concealer blends easily regardless of whether I use my fingers or a brush. I do think that the coverage builds a little faster when I use my fingers, but not by much. The brand claims that this is medium buildable coverage, but I just disagree. I would say that this is light, buildable coverage. I can build it to medium coverage in two layers, but I have to do the Jackie Aina (YouTube) tip of letting the concealer sit on the skin for a minute before fully blending it out. That is what I was referring to when I mentioned needing patience to get medium-ish coverage. This concealer does do a little bit of blurring somehow, which I think makes it seem like it has more coverage than it does. That blurring does help make my hollowness appear flatter, despite the glow this concealer gives. I do want to make it clear that light coverage isn’t a bad thing, but I do have darkness in my under-eye area, so I always want at least medium coverage. Since that is the brand’s claim, it is disappointing that it falls short. For my darkness, I have to pair the Lancome Care and Glow Concealer with a corrector. On the upside, pairing it with a corrector hasn’t changed its performance.

The Lancome website lists the finish as a natural soft glow, but the box states it’s a radiant natural finish. I think both claims are getting at the same thing, but the radiant natural finish feels more accurate to me. The concealer is glowy enough to accentuate texture because of how reflective it is (radiant), but it does still look skin-like (natural). I know that sounds bad, but I’m just trying to express that you aren’t likely to get a smoothing effect from a radiant finish. I have hollowness in my under-eye area, which I’m aiming to reduce, so too much radiance can make it look worse. The Lancome Care and Glow Serum Concealer does have micro shimmer running through it to give it that radiance. I don’t notice it looking shimmery while I’m wearing it. Especially not from a normal viewing distance, just looking in the mirror while standing at the sink. However, at the end of the day (after about 8 hours), if I look for it, I can see sparkles on my under-eye area. I have tested this on days when wearing no eyeshadow, so I know the sparkles are coming from the concealer. It is winter, though, and here in the Boston area, that means snow and dark days, so that micro-shimmer could look different in sunshine and blue skies.

So let’s talk creasing. As I’ve mentioned, everything will settle into lines to some degree. For me, when the pigment starts collecting in the lines so much that I can see it from a distance, I’m not happy. This concealer settles into lines and wrinkles, and it does it quickly. As a concealer on the face, the settling into lines doesn’t ever look bad from a distance, and I can’t tell until I get up close. However, in the under-eye area, it collects in some of my deeper wrinkles, and I can pick up on it even when far from the mirror. So in my experience, this concealer has to be set with powder. I do have dry skin, so I don’t use very mattifying products, but I have not been able to wear this without at least a little powder. I have chubby cheeks, and when I smile, a lot of crinkling happens around my eyes. So, if your under-eye area is flatter than mine, you may not have the same issues with creasing that I do.

UPDATE May 24, 2024: I have dry skin and find that the NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Powder typically reduces my creasing issues without drying out my skin. However, with this concealer, I didn’t have success with it. I had the same creasing issues even after trying it with other powders, including the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Pressed Powder, NYX HD Finishing Powder, and Westman Atelier Vital Pressed Skincare Powder. I finally had success with the bareMinerals Mineral Veil in Sheer Tan. The Lancome Care and Glow Serum Concealer is radiant, even when paired with the bareMinerals powder, it maintains some glow. For comparison, it does not wear as well on me as the Armani Luminous Silks Concealer, which is the most comparable formula I’ve tried. I would like it if it had a touch more coverage (it can be a struggle to get medium coverage), and I do experience a little fading by the end of the day. But it is more hydrating than any other concealer I have experience with, if that is something you are looking for.

My Shade

The shade range has 24 shades, and they are not the same as other Lancome complexion products, so you may want to check out the shades in a store. Lancome describes 405W as being for medium skin with warm golden undertones. It is too orange to match my actual undertone (warm olive), but it is passable and acts a little like a color-correcting concealer for me. If you are new here, I very often have to settle for a warm undertone because brands rarely offer olive undertones (and it’s even harder to find olive undertones in my depth).

Comparison Swatches (Lancome Teint Idole All Over Full Coverage Concealer 435W and Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer 4W)

Since the shade range for the Lancome Care and Glow Serum Concealer (405W) is different from their Teint Idole Ultra Wear Full Coverage Concealer (435W) I thought it would be helpful to swatch the shade I have for comparison. I also added the Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer in shade 4W because I thought it would be more similar, but as you can see, it is not as warm.

Formula Comparison

Considering the radiance that the Lancome Care and Glow Serum Concealer has, it does look more natural and a bit less glowy than the Armani Luminous Silk Concealer, despite the formulas feeling somewhat similar. I think the Lancome Care and Glow Serum Concealer is more blurring and self-setting in contrast to the Armani Luminous Silk Concealer. But oddly enough, the Lancome concealer creases more than the Armani, despite how much they remind me of each other. It may be confusing to hear that the Lancome Serum Concealer self-sets, but still needs powder to stay in place. I think this has to do with both the shape of my eye area and likely the fact that I use both a moisturizing serum and a heavy oil-based moisturizer.

I’d say Givenchy Prisme Libre Skin Caring Concealer is also somewhat comparable. However, it does have better coverage than both Lancome and Armani and sets better/easier without powder. If you are after a concealer with better coverage, you don’t tend to have issues with creasing, and you can find a shade, I’d steer you toward the new Estee Lauder Futurist Skincealer. The Estee Lauder has less glow, but it does have a radiance to it. It is also smoothing and has better coverage. Overall, both formulas are hydrating and comfortable to wear on my dry skin. Still, I think the Estee Lauder Futurist Skincealer performs better and has a coverage level I prefer.

  1. Very thorough review! As I started reading, I was wondering if this was something you could wear underneath a different concealer so you could potentially get the skincare benefits but rely on a fuller coverage one to cover dark circles, but the pigment gathering in the lines…yeah…I’m not so sure that idea would work anymore.

    1. Thanks! You know I have considered that and so far it is performing well for me with the bareMinerals pressed mineral veil. So not my favorite concealer, but it seems it can be finessed. 😆
