I resisted buying these bronzers for a long time, but I finally broke down last month. I have a soft spot for CoverGirl, I think because it was a brand that got me started with makeup. I did mention these back in a Window Shopping Wednesday when they were newer to the market. A purchase like this is a big reason I don’t often do Window Shopping Wednesday posts because they end up becoming a shopping list of sorts. Anyway, I’m always paying attention to what CoverGirl releases. I was curious to see how these bronzers compared to the ones previously part of the CoverGirl Queen Collection. While I don’t have those older bronzers to do a direct comparison, I’m hoping it is still helpful to see what the new colors look like. The claims are big for the CoverGirl Trublend So Flushed High Pigment Bronzer (they seriously could have chosen a shorter name 🙄). The brand claims it’s comfortable, high pigment, easy to apply, cream-like, lightweight, and blendable, and I mostly agree. We’ll talk about the application and blendability near the end, which is my only slight disagreement. Alright, let’s get into some swatches.

**CoverGirl Trublend So Flushed High Pigment Bronzer, $11.99 @ Ulta

In the image above, I have swatched (from left to right) 420 warmth, both shades mixed together, and then 400 Ebony. Mixing both shades together is a better color for my skin tone, and selfishly, it would be nice if there were a shade in between these two. I can use the shade 420 Warmth, but it is pretty subtle. If I use a light hand, I can work with 400 Ebony, and I do prefer its undertone for my preferences (leans a bit redder). I can say that 400 Ebony is not as red in tone as the original CoverGirl Queen Ebony Bronzer and may even be a little darker. Also, the CoverGirl Queen Brown Bronze shade was a little lighter than 420 Warmth and less warm. Now that it’s summer and I’m darker, 400 Ebony is workable, but it is definitely created with deeper skin tones in mind (as it should be). I do think that in the winter, 420 Warmth will likely work better for me than it does now, and I won’t feel the need to mix the shades. As promised by the brand, I do think these have a lot of pigment, so if the shade suits your skin tone, it shouldn’t be hard to see the product on the skin. If you are looking for a drugstore bronzer and the 400 Ebony shade still doesn’t look deep enough, consider checking out **NYX, **Revolution Beauty, and **Juvia’s Place. I’m not saying that no other brands have dark bronzers, just that these bronzers seem to go darker than most.

CoverGirl Trublend Bronzer 420 Warmth

I would describe the formula of the Trublend bronzer as powdery. It definitely has more kick up when a brush is dipped into the pan than I would personally prefer, but it still manages to be a smooth, creamy feeling powder, which is good (and as the brand claims). While it isn’t the easiest to blend, I do think it blends well. It’s not one of those products where I feel like it blends itself, but it’s also not hard to blend. The way it blends is more apparent to me when using 400 Ebony because it is too dark for me, so I can see very easily how it moves across the skin.

I love the finish of this formula, it has that nice healthy satin sheen that I love in a bronzer. It doesn’t have any shimmer, there are just some emollient ingredients in the formula that create a creamy texture. Honestly, to me, this is a great bronzer regardless of price. If you aren’t bothered by the powder kick-up and one of the shades works for you, I think it is a great buy.
