Smashbox Cali Contour Medium-Dark Palette

Smashbox Medium-Dark Cali Contour Palette

Smashbox quietly released this medium-dark version of their popular Cali Contour palette sometime back in 2020 (?). I say quietly because I don’t think there was any sort of marketing letting people know they had created this new shade variation. I was searching for a review of this palette for the longest time with no luck. I was surprised that they didn’t try to hype this up more considering all of the valid complaints companies have been getting about shade ranges lacking inclusive options. Anyway, I broke down and got it because I continued to hear lighter skin tones rave about the original light medium shade and finally had to see for myself if it was good.

Coloured Raine Bronzer (Cinna-Bae)

Coloured Raine recently released a six-color range of matte bronzers. After really enjoying the powder blush formula Coloured Raine released with the Power Collection I was excited to try a bronzer formula from the brand.

I purchased the shade Cinna-Bae but I’m thinking I could also have gotten away with the shade Caramel Delight for my skin tone. The brand suggests the shade Cinna-Bae for tan to light dark skin and the shade Caramel Delight for medium to medium dark skin. There are three darker shades in the range after Cinna-Bae and one shade lighter than Caramel Delight.

I would still consider it a first impression, but so far I am in love with this bronzer. I use Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation and I don’t set it with any additional powder and I still find that this formula is easy to blend. Keep in mind that Estee Lauder Double Wear does dry down to a matte finish, but I have experienced blending difficulties with another bronzer over this foundation, so I wanted to mention that. I feel like the finish isn’t a flat matte and that it gives me the same type of healthy look that I get from the Becca Sunlit Bronzers. The Becca bronzers do have a sheen to them and again this formula is definitely matte. I just feel like both of these formulas make me look healthier than before I applied them. I was worried about the depth of the color, but it is so easy to blend that I really don’t even find myself having to be careful.

The closest bronzer shade I have for comparison is a MAC bronzer from the limited edition Aladdin collection (right swatch).

NARS Matte Bronzing Powder Swatch (Samoa)

I clearly have a bronzer problem. In May, I talked about the new release of bronzers from NARS in one of my window shopping posts. I claimed I wasn’t going to buy the matte version. Well, that was true. At the time, I ended up getting the satiny version in the shade Punta Cana. But right before Christmas, I finally broke down and decided to try the matte version.

Despite typically preferring a satin finish, I like this matte formula better than their traditional finish. It is definitely a matte powder, but it gives a healthy look to the skin. The most comparable bronzer that I’ve tried is the Bobbi Brown bronzing powder (swatches here). They remind me a lot of each other, but the NARS formula is denser likely due to the oils in the ingredients.

Pictured below is Samoa (matte formula) and Punta Cana (regular formula) swatched. I thought it would be helpful to see the two side by side so you can see how the finish differs. Hopefully this is helpful if you are trying to decide between the two. The colors looks similar in a swatch but Punta Cana applies deeper and more neutral than Samoa on me. Punta Cana is much more like it looks in the pan, than it looks in the swatch.

If you’re curious to see how Punta Cana compares to other brands, I posted a round-up of my bronzers over the summer.

Estee Lauder Ultimate Mineral-Infused Matte Bronzer Swatches

Estee Lauder Ultimate Mineral-Infused Matte Bronzers were the limited edition release for Summer 2019’s Bronze Goddess Collection, but you can still find some inventory hanging around.  Keep reading for swatches and my thoughts.

Estee Lauder Ultimate Mineral-Infused Matte Bronzers shades 03 Brazen (medium deep) and 04 Hot Spell (deep)

I used to have both the shades 03 Brazen (medium deep) and 04 Hot Spell (deep).  I will insert a picture of the two shades swatched next to each other, but I will warn you that it is blurry.  I still own 04 Hot Spell and was able to take a new picture of that swatch, which is also below.  Two lighter colors were also released as part of the collection, 01 Halo and 02 Suggestive.  They retail for $40.00 and last I checked all 4 shades are still in stock at Macy’s.
